Armature problems in Blender 2.65

Hi, I am trying to add bones to my bear character so I can animate it to put into a game, I have followed a tutorial on YouTube and despite following the steps my character just messes up when I go to move the limbs. Since I am following the tutorial exactly, I am assuming that the problem is with my character mesh, but can someone tell me why this is going wrong?
Here is a screen shot of the problem.

Cheers guys,

Mark.

Did you check the mesh/bone weight painting ?

i’m not sure what that is :stuck_out_tongue: I set the parent with automatic weights if that’s what you mean?

Make sure that your mirror modifier is applied and that you don’t have double bones. Also as the dude above said weights may be the problem , so in that case you will have to learn what are they and how to fix them(dont worry weight painting is easy).
Btw its seems like that you have attached fur to your bear. You will have to know that this is only an in blender feature and you cannot export fur to the game engine.

Hope this helps

Mark, select the armature then go into pose mode and select a bone - that arm bone you show moved may be ideal - now click on the mesh and go into weight paint mode - see where you have red, green, blue colours.

Blender’s auto weight painting usually does an OK job - but it is not perfect. And if you have a particle effect for the hair - not sure what impact that will have on the auto weight paint.

Cheers guys! I thought the fur might be a problem, but I’ve yet had the chance to try importing it, you saved me the dissapointment :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ll learn up on the weight painting and just delete the fur in that case.
Thanks again for the help.
