God dang it man, every time i’m about to release my game some issue comes up. If it isnt build errors, editor errors, or plugin errors then its code problems. Then the damn game takes too long to start. All i wanna do is release the game so people can play it and get my name out there.
LOL, welcome to the game developer world, what game are you making?
Your game doesn’t want to leave his mum…
Or rather the mum doesnt want to leave her child go
You’re running into one of the most common problems with engineering. To build a system that works takes about an hour, to build a system that works in all circumstances takes a week.
I was working on a pretty simple 2d platformer i named Downward Boy. Its a twist on a old game i use to play on the nokia 1208 (i think lol). You control a ball and roll it off on platforms that are rising upwards to get higher points. I was finished and everything and now i have some stupid error after building sucessfully. Gonna have to rebuild it when easter comes since i dont have to go work.
Was hoping the game is called Arrgggh!
Probably already taken as a name/trademark, Arrgggh!
It works similarly for other types of software too. There’s a saying in software development:
the first 90% of development takes 90% of the time. The last 10% of development takes the other 90% of the time.
Woah, so you need 180% effort on a project?
Actually, that might be optimistic. Seriously, though, I do find that it’s a good idea to multiply your time estimates by at-least two, because there always seem to be unforeseen set backs. I imagine that the amount of “time bloat” probably increases with the scope of the project also, but I don’t have a lot of experience managing big projects.
It’s took 2/3 years to complete some of my games, but I am reasonably happy with the result (not all players though). It’s like running a marathon, you can see the finish line, but it feels so far in the end as that bit is the toughest.
Guess ill just redo it for the easter holiday.
