My first use of Unity 3D Pro is assembly instructions for my kickstarter project.
I exported the coreldraw image that’s used to laser cut the project parts to dxf, import that into Sketchup, and pull out the thickness, put the pieces together, export the model with fbx to my unity3d project, create all the animations for assembly/disassembly, create buttons and scripts to play portions of the animation, and allow looking around the sculpture, and built for the Web Player!
There’s a couple times it’s not centered on what’s going on. It doesn’t prevent you from knowing how it assembles, but it’s a bit jarring to have things happening halfway off the screen.
The top and bottom pieces have a lot of parts. A way to pause or slow it down while you do it yourself might be nice.
I’ve updated the site, and now there’s a nice scroller bar that lets you scroll to any position in the assembly. Once you’re where you want, you can scroll around the project to see it from whatever angle you want. I also speeded up the movement so you don’t fall behind where the action is.
Thanks! It started just because I wanted to grab some nice screenshots for the hardcopy assembly instructions for my kickstarter backers, but then I figured, why not let them have access to the app too? Its not super complicated to put together, but its nice when you can look at it at any stage and at any angle.
Oh, if anyone is wondering what the heck the project is (probably not obvious even when you view the assembly app) its a Magnetic Levitation Sculpture. (Levitates a small cube between the two cones.) I won’t spam the unity site, but the link is on the web app page, if anyone wants to take a peek.
