Is anyone else experiencing extremely long asset review time?
I submitted an asset 11 days ago, and its still pending review. I wrote to Unity and asked what the holdup was and was told they are experiencing longer than average review times.
Haven’t submitted anything really recently, but I’ve had at least one take that long in the past I think. The review time varies. One thing that might affect it is that they’ve got a big sale that just started.
Yeah, I have had them take 5 days before, but 11 days is just silly.
I understand they have a sale, and not to stress my first world problems, but if it takes that long to review assets, maybe hire some more reviewers…I know I’m not the only one waiting right now. And if new asset approval is held up be sales then it’s only another symptom to the broken nature of the Asset Store.
I think a lot of people agree that Unity needs to hire more asset store reviewers. But, it’s been discussed before and nothing’s been done so I don’t have my hopes up.
So it has been 12 days since I submitted an asset to the asset store for review. I understand that it takes time to review assets, but it’s still in pending review. I have emailed the asset review group to try to get some answers to when it will be reviewed or even looked at. The only information I can get is that its still pending and will get reviewed when it gets reviewed.
As an asset developer who has spent over 6 months developing an asset, it’s really disrespectful to treat us like this. You state that it takes about 3 business days to review an asset. We all know that you have other things going on like promotions for your madness sales and thats all cool, but you need to treat us as first come first serve and not take a week off to make a promotion.
If it takes you this long to review assets, then you need to hire more reviewers.
I’ve hade them take anywhere from 3 days to two weeks. It just depends on how swamped they are with submissions. Personally I think it’s great that they’re actually reviewing the assets instead of just blinding publishing them. Do you have any other assets on the store? Is this a new asset or an update? Particularly the second question… new assets take longer to review than updated assets in many cases. Also, the complexity of the asset makes a difference as well. There is no real golden rule as to how long it will take to get approved.
Dustin, I have other Assets in the store, but this is a new asset.
This asset is still in the pending queue after 12 days, and that’s what I’m saying is unacceptable.
They state in their submission accepted email that it takes on average 3 days to get them reviewed but sometimes longer. I get that, I do…it’s their asset store and they can do what they want to with it. They just need to know that they are making asset developers upset with their policies. Either Hire more reviewers, or set better expectations.
I know I’m not the only person dealing with this right now.
I also know for a fact, that other assets were fast tracked for review to make it into the current sales promotion. Is this wrong? I guess it depends on your point of view. But it makes it clear that the motivation behind the Asset Store is to make money over curation of content.
Again, I know this is a total first world problem, but it’s one that is eroding the Unity Brand as there are alternatives to publishing to their Asset Store.
Just add this to the growing list of problems with the Asset Store.
I published my first package recently, and yeah, it took about that long.
It would be helpful if they’d show us information about where in the queue we are (i.e. “you are #57 in the queue”). That way we’d a) immediately understand what their workload is like b) get some impression of how quickly they’re getting through things and c) be able to predict when our asset is likely to get to the front of the queue.
I remember a while back when I had assets approved the next day! I just submitted a new asset and noticed the delay as well. Took about 7 or 8 days. Not sure what’s going on. I’m thinking they are simply swamped with the volume now.
The first time you upload a new asset it might take a while (but I find it understandable - the issues with the Asset Store are others, imho), but for the updates they’re usually pretty quick.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a faster more streamlined process to publish simple revisions or updates? I mean the engine itself is moving that direction, why can’t engine content?
Yeah having to wait a week or two just to make the slightest update is pretty inefficient. It’s bad for publishers because they have to wait, but it’s also bad for Unity, because they have to spend all that extra unnecessary time reviewing the asset.
Depends on the update. If you’re just updating description, price, etc… that stuff gets approved pretty quickly. Content updates take a little longer and again, this will depend on the type of asset. A good reviewer will make sure the asset at least functions (they can’t test everything). They also verify things such as documentation.
I personally don’t mind the wait time. I’m glad they’re looking at the assets and ensuring at least some sort of quality. And they do get flooded with submissions… and updated to existing packages have to take priority and generally are shorter times in my experience. Still, content updates for me have generally taken about a week.
This is no different than publishing to any of the various app stores. It’s the industry standard wait time and it really is not unacceptable at all… especially when you consider that Apple and Google charge you a fee to publish to their app stores on top of the percentage, while Unity does not.
Edit: You’re also free to sell your asset elsewhere. I also sell mine through FastSpring and I can tell you that the FastSpring sales are a tiny fraction of what the asset store sales are. On the plus side, users who buy through FastSpring get access to my updates through my website immediately when they’re available, but I’d never give up the asset store because the visibility, convenience and sales volume are well worth the approval wait time.
