I’m working on a project with a team of four other people all running unity 2.6.1.31223.
when i sync with via update in asset server, unity freezes for an inordinate amount of time. I am currently waiting for an update to complete, and thus far it has been about an hour, with the clock still ticking.
nobody else on the team has this trouble and i am on a comparable machine. i tried checking out a new instance of the project and the update time was improved for a while, but now is back to this untenable state.
any ideas what may be causing this?
i should also say that during this time, my cpu is not at 100%, and in process explorer, unity is shown as only taking up 20% of the current cpu overhead.
i’m on windows XP pro, 2GHz, 3.25GB ram
Potentially the network is just too slow.
Asset server stuff normally processing wise takes no time, the major bottleneck is the bandwidth (down on your site, up on the server side) when you update.
thanks for the reply. since the other members of the team are all in the same office with me and having no problems, i dont think that’s it.
Potentially or potentially not.
How large is the whole project?
You can expect 3-6mb/s bandwidth at maximum on a 100mbit line, about 40mb/s on a good gigabit connection
so i killed the last instance after 1.5 hours and tried again. it made me re-import the whole project. i then went to asset server and updated and chose to disregard any local changes i had made to a scene.
now it is hanging indefinitely again. i believe it got through downloading any new files (said about 90mb), and i see no network activity in my network monitor.
CPU is hovering at 50% with unity taking up between 20-30%.
So many years later and asset server is still very slow, we have the assetserver housed in a datacentre in the UK we own all of our servers and everyone has a dedicated Gbit full duplex connection. with this in mind when it comes to us syncing a full project thats about 300meg in size so not big at all, we can downloaded a 1 GB file from our servers in under a minute, yet the unity asset server with only 300 mb to download takes about 20 mins, this is an old post but the problem is still here, do we know what is going on?
