Asset Store downloads old version of asset.

Hi there everyone! This is my first time posting to the forums, so if I’m in the wrong place please let me know.

I’m building a 2D platformer with Corgi Engine by More Mountains. It’s a crazy good tool for people like me who have absolutely no skill at programming, coding, scripting or anything related to these sorts of advanced topics. Corgi Engine is frequently updated but since our games are on the simple side I don’t often need the new features right away. I always download the new versions and import them, though.

Something was added in v4.5.1 that I would love to utilize so I updated the asset and imported it into my project as usual. After looking through the folders I noticed that the new features aren’t there, and neither are the ones from the last five or six updates. The Readme file included in the asset tells me I’m still on version v4.0 which released in July, 2017. No features past that point are present in the asset and I don’t know what to do about it.

The Asset Store download page lists the asset as the correct and latest version but tells me it hasn’t been updated since April 2016, which is false. The latest version, v4.5.1. was released on April 27th 2018, hardly a week ago. Nothing on my download page that concerns this asset is accurate except for the version number and change log. Unity is downloading a very outdated asset and I know it’s not the asset itself being submitted wrong because the Corgi Engine forum page has had people using all of the new content from the past year of updates.

The most confusing part is that I often see people asking Unity for the ability to re-download older versions of assets to be added as a feature. I’m just baffled by this situation.

Unity is updated to the latest version.
I’ve logged out of my Unity account and back in.
I’ve downloaded the asset and imported it into a new project.
I’ve manually deleted the asset via Windows Explorer.

More Mountains is amazing with costumer service. I’ve asked for help many times and they’re always happy to help me and quick to respond but this seems to me like a problem with Unity, not the asset. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@NEHWind2 > Just randomly stumbled upon this. Not sure if you still have the problem, but it seems to be an issue with the new Asset Store. If you revert back to the old store the problem should go away. At least that was the case for another Corgi Engine user. Let me know if the problem persists, I’ll contact Unity about it.

Hello again! Thank you very much for your help!
Unfortunately switching to the old Asset Store didn’t solve the issue :frowning:

@NEHWind2 > I’m sorry to hear that :frowning:

Quick question though : did you read the FAQ?

(the first, highlighted question in particular)

I thought you mentioned your Unity version in your post but you actually don’t, and that could be the very obvious solution. If that’s not the case though, please let me know and I’ll try to see with the nice people at Unity what the problem can be.

Update the asset by going to “My Download” instead of the asset store download page, it should work. Unity change the way the update works such that when you access the main store page for a specific asset it no longer has an “update” button, so you will always download an older version if you access the asset this way. Hence, proceed to the download page instead.

@reuno
I did read the FAQ after I noticed what was happening. My Unity version was the first thing I thought of too so I updated before I created the thread. It had been a while since I’d checked for a new version but after updating I’m running 5.6.3p2 which Unity tells me is the latest and it still wouldn’t download properly. I did notice that the Releases page identifies Unity versions with year dates though (like 2017.3), which I’m not seeing anywhere on my end from Unity itself so maybe I’m updating the wrong thing. I’m just clicking “Check for Updates” from the Help menu.

@Idhongen1990
I always update assets from the “My Downloads” page. I didn’t know until I read your post that updating an asset from its store page was ever an option! Thank you for your help though!

@NEHWind2 > Unity 5.6.3 is something like a year old, there have been 4 releases since then. Latest version is 2018.1.
Update to 2017.3 or 2018.1 and the problem will go away.

@reuno
… oh.

I’m sorry! It seems like every time I have an issue it has a super simple solution that just passes me by. I thought updating from the help menu was giving me the latest version of Unity. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I’ve been using Unity for three years but I still have a long way to go with all this stuff. Thanks again!

@NEHWind2 > Don’t be too hard on yourself, there’s a reason this item is at the top of the FAQ. It confuses A LOT of people (I’d say on average I get this question 3 to 5 times a day) :slight_smile:
I wish the Asset Store made it all more obvious.
I’m just glad it’s all working now. Have fun with the engine!
