I have the same issue and no one cares at Unity they only want your money , I have purchased many assets and if I’m lucky I can download one and then I have to close unity completely and cross my fingers that I can download another one . I paid for those assets they should be always available without interruption . I submitted a bug report and the only response I got was that I it could be that they have the bug fixed with the new realize (a generic answer not specific to the issue at all) So I should have my project on hold until then??? Time is Money . I’m really disappointed with Unity . My Editor keeps freezing (bug submitted , they are aware of the issue but don’t know how to fix it , have a great day !) . Yesterday my complete scene was scrambled into one house block (everything the terrain all objects ) now I’m not able to download the assets to restore my scene . All in all unity needs to make sure people have access to the stuff they purchase and the features they promise to have in there engine , or people will start suing them .
here is the trick i found with the asset store
create another folder and move all the packages you have ever downloaded from the asset store to it
basically leave
C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Unity\Asset Store
empty!
then when you run the asset store you will see you very quickly can buy and download
if you are like me that has several hundred assets from the store you will find the store crawls and its always stuck on please wait or getting errors from this or that
once i found the above solution my issues went for the most part away
its a pain cause if complained to them and they say their store is working great, yes i guess it is, but not unity builtin asset store software which cant handle lots of stuff in your asset store local folder
one drawback all the stuff u bought it cant find since u moved it so importing assets its a pain now cause i have to say custom asset and point to it and when i go to the store page it says download , so it dont know its somewhere else and it make doing updates a pain…
basically when an update comes out i can either move it bit back and let it do the update and then move it out, another things would be to download it and delete the old one manually
another thing is to only move out the stuff i am most likely not going to use soon so i leave like a few things that i mostly use behind
hopefully they will resolve this issue, but its been going on for years from what ive read and the solution that i found from the web is years old!
i guess they go to your local file system and check each package against the server or something and it makes it crawl when u go to the page, and u get all the errors and warnings and the scripts break waiting so u stay on please wait or it just ignores your buy / download while it does it things on local file system but since it keeps flaking out it never does it so you can never buy and never download well unless u restart and hope it dont timeout again…
having said that the browser is great to use, sadly if u have unity it just opens the ineditor asset store which sucks.
