Is there a refund policy for things that flat out do not work at all? It was a $50 plugin…and I usually DO NOT buy things that don’t have reviews, especially if they’re over $20 with no reviews, but I needed the features…
The demo scene that came with it doesn’t work at all, and there’s nothing else to add to the build settings…I’m using unity pro android…it’s a plugin to work with photos on the device and it does nothing…
There is a way to refund. As a publisher I know there is an area that shows Chargebacks. I haven’t had anyone return my asset yet so I’m not sure how the process works. However, looking at the EULA for the Asset Store (section 2.6), it says this:
But imported into a brand new project, converted to android, and published it’s basically just 5 guibuttons that do nothing and a plane with a logo on it… in both unity 4.1.5 and 4.2.1
I am pretty sure that is what is meant my “as required by law”. I think they are just saying that if your needs change or you simply change your mind, there are no refunds. Certainly false advertising and broken/non-functional products should be grounds for refund. (I would hope)
We’ve got stuff on the Asset Store for sale and we’ve been asked for a refund once. The way it worked was that the user requests a refund from us, the seller, and if we decide to grant it we then ask the user for their invoice and send that to Unity with a request that it be refunded.
If you can’t contact the seller then contact Unity themselves. They seem pretty willing to help out from my experience.
I’m surprised there isn’t some automation to pare out broken assets, or at least tag them to versions of Unity they work with. This would be pretty easy to automate (at least to find assets that have build errors, if they don’t work for other reasons, that’s a little harder, but it could be done with a user feedback mechanism.)
I have purchased well over 50 assets. Most assets require a couple hours re-engineering to make them work the way I want, but they usually save days or weeks of time if I had to create them from scratch.
I have purchased a few assets that don’t work as advertised or are so badly written, I won’t use them. You can’t avoid this when you have store items stocked by anyone in the Unity community.
I try to give fair feedback on the Asset store so that the next person that is looking to purchase that asset has a better idea of what quality they are getting.
If you have purchased a bad asset, give it poor feedback on the store and the reason why. This will save the next person from the same painful experience. It will also give the developer a wake up call and they will hopefully publish an update to fix your complaint.
You should be entitled to a refund, which might neccesitate getting in contact with the publisher of the asset to see if the problems can be resolved.
Contact Unity Asset store team first with a request for a refund (explain why you deserve it), contact the asset publisher as well (try to explain what is broken and needs to be fixed, perhaps there was is something silly that went wrong like forgetting to change the manifest), then await their replies
If the publisher is unwilling to fix or support you in fixing the problem, then you should be entitled to a refund (in my honest opinion).
A customer should always have a product that works well enough to fullfill at very least everything they saw in the advertising.
Talking about advertising, but in this case it might be relevant to know of a simmilar asset on the store that does work and is fully supported.
If you do end up needing an Image Picker Plugin (with Camera app support), there are a few alternatives available.
Of course I would recommend mine, as it is just awesome: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/9926
Run the demo, decide if it works for your devices, if it doesn’t please let me know and I will do everything possible to fix whatever is broken.
Version 7 (to be released as soon as the asset store can process it) should work on all android devices (arm7 with 2.2 and up) with many devices already tested and confirmed.
But honestly I hope you give Attrecto Innovations a chance to offer support to fix the issue first.
Contacting them with a bug report even if it simply states: “Does not work out of the box in Unity 4.1.5” should be enough.
Consider leaving a review which states your findings to this effect, then change it to something positive when they have fixed the issue.
I noticed they already have received such a review, but it leaves a lot to the imagination as to what the individual actually tried to fix it themselves.
I got ripped off for $50 for a scam plugin (Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making)that wasn’t anything but 4 buttons that were empty.
The other link in the asset store is a link to a unity thread where at least 3 people have been ripped off and the asset is still in the store.
ive bought at least one asset that start throwing exceptions the minute you import them and/or open the project and/or load the sample scene and completely refuses to run.
tells me that basically they do 0 testing before putting it on sale cause if they had just imported / opened / loaded / tried to run these assets they would have easily seen that they do not work at all.
author has even posted they dont work, months later they are still not fixed, worse they are still for sale.
and even with long list of negative reviews people continue to buy them…
