Asset Store Summer Daily Deals

We will have new deals every day on the Asset Store, check back daily for discounts up to 50% off.

Who decides which products will be on discount?

Is there only 1 thing on sale a day? I guess it would be good if it was something you needed

Thanks for the warning.
Can Unity set some sort of mailing list for this kind of operation ?

how to request for this deal to make my pack AVAILABLE for discount ?

I’d like to know how one goes about getting included in these asset store sales, there never seems to be any announcement or information about them until they suddenly appear in secret? Does Unity choose packages and contact the developers?

I would also like to know how one would go about being included in these promotions. I would also like to know in advance (as a seller) about any planned promotion campaigns… there’s got to be more communication involved from Unity… perhaps a “Asset Store Sellers mailing list” type of thing (at the very least). Come on Unity!

I would imagine they would contact the dev before doing it but you never know I guess, since it seemed like fabian was surprised to learn his kit was even featured on the frontpage.

Does this mean there won’t be any 24 hour madness sales for a while? Usually they have been happening every other Wednesday, but I noticed there wasn’t one today.

I was also wondering if there could be a notification system for when items go on sale. I subscribe to the “Unity Asset Store Discount Packages” RSS feed from the Asset Store, but it hasn’t been updated since May 24th. I notice items like Playmaker and FX Mega Pack are marked as on sale, but they weren’t in the RSS feed. Items like that didn’t appear in the “Hot Deals” section either. It can be hard to notice an item went on sale, unless it makes it to the Asset Store front page.

@UnityAssetStore is a twitterfeed that posts all the new sales and features some new releases.

I don’t think the daily deal is a good approach for the community. I understand it might increase daily traffic during this period, but I see it being a negative experience for many. For instance, if you buy an asset today for $100, and it shows up for $50 the next day or later during the sales cycle, that would not be pleasant and would feel like a refund should be issued. It feels more like a gambling approach.

At least with your other approaches, especially the month long+ ones, if an asset you need isn’t on sale, your still willing to purchase it at full price because you need it, and you aren’t going to wait for the next sales cycle to see if it shows up. In this case, the purchaser is making the decision not to wait. To a lesser extent the 24 hour sales still allowed the purchaser to decide now or later.

In the daily deals you will be wondering if it will show up tomorrow, so you wait until you have to get it, and then if it goes on sale a few days later that causes strife. If I knew it was going to be on sale in a couple of days, my decision would be to wait to purchase it. So, can you tell us now, what will be on sale everyday of the Daily Deals?

Conclusion: I have a couple of items I am ready to purchase in the asset store. I am holding off now, to see if they show up in the daily deals. If you were doing a 24 hour sale and they were not on the list, I would go ahead and buy them at normal price, knowing full well they will probably go on sale in the future. That’s fine, it was my choice.

Which would be a useful tool if it wasn’t cluttered up with a bunch of other useless junk.

I click on it today and the very first thing I see? Not an announcement about what’s on sale today, it’s someone asking us to buy them a birthday present.

If it’s about socialization, that’s fine. If it’s where they announce business stuff like their sales and new releases, then that’s all it should be.

And I need to check 10 times a day to see the 3 lines post, and breaking my productivity.
No I prefer newletter…

If you want your Asset included talk to the asset store on assetstore@unity3d.com

I guess I should have mentioned that I also check @UnityAssetStore for sales, but like the RSS feed, it is not consistent with all of the sales items. For instance, I don’t see my example of the FX Mega Pack sale on @UnityAssetStore. Also, like others mentioned, it is cluttered with other posts leaving maybe 20% of the posts actually about sales. I also try to use the Asset Store forum, but that is a lot of work to go through on a regular basis.

I just think it would be nice to have a system in place that would mention all current sale items instead of some of them. Sometimes I stumble across assets on sale that were never mentioned on RSS or Twitter and I feel like I am missing out on sales that I would be interested in if I knew about them.

It’s pretty commonplace on shopping/e-commerce sites to have deals and sales and promos that only run for a short time. The purpose is to create a sense of urgency ie if I want to take advantage of this deal, I better move quickly before it ends, which puts a fire under people and gets them to buy more than they might otherwise if they were just taking their time browsing. Ultimately it leads to more sales. Obviously if you just missed the deal and have to pay the full price, then there is going to be a bit of a let-down about it, but hey, that’s just one of the side-effects. It’s also not very abundance-minded to buy something and be begrudging about the price and then to whinge when it goes on sale a few days later, because to me that’s kind of like saying you didn’t think it was worth the amount you paid for it, so… when then did you buy it at the price and not be true to yourself? My philosophy… if you’re going to buy it, go all-in and commit and be happy about it and let go of the money. When I go grocery shopping for example I typically don’t look at prices and especially don’t get into coupons… not because I have lots of money, I certainly don’t, but if you dwell on not having enough then you will not have enough. If I’m going to put something in my cart to buy it there’s no point being at odds with myself and get all spazzy about the money, either I’m buying the thing of I’m not. If I don’t like the price, I’m not putting it in my cart. Otherwise I’m just divided against myself and that’s not worth anything.

I am sorry but your post makes little to no sense. For instance, you don’t know if a certain game on Steam is going to be on sale next Friday either do you? Nor do they tell you which games are going to be on sale. Valve has no obligation to tell you when/what is going to be on sale and neither does UT or anybody else. A sale is a sale and doesn’t necessarily have to be promoted in advance. The current implementation will drive more traffic to the asset store and I think users and asset developers will profit from that in the long run. If you want to hold off on certain items then do so.

Sticking this, well done! Also, clever way to monetize from the newcomers who have just got their mobile licenses for free.

Yeah its kind of like a lotto you got to check back each day to find which asset is on sale.

You know, I did that. Three times in the last couple of weeks. I didn’t get a single answer yet… which is really daunting, especially if I now see that you already started a new sale with obviously only selected people :frowning:
