Asset Store Tools with the new Unity 4.1

Hello;

I upgraded my Unity to 4.1, now Asset Store Tools doesn’t work at all, I get this error message:
“MissingMethodException: Method not found: ‘UnityEditor.EditorUserBuildSettings.SwitchActiveBuildTarget’.”

I need to send a new update of my asset to the store, but I can not now!

Hope this issue will be solved as soon as possible!

You know, if you send the update with Unity 4.1 the package will be available only to those who have already switched to the latest version, and that might be not what you really want…

So I have to downgrade back to 4.0.1!!

No
you have to parallel install 4.0.1 with 4.1 … most developers working with Unity in job have several versions installed. I’ve 4.0.1, 4.1, 3.5.7 and 3.4.2 for example

Hey,

We are aware of this issue, and we are working on it. Meanwhile, if you don’t rely on any 4.1 feature, you can use another unity version to upload your packages.

Remember that the version you upload with, will be the minimum version required to the end users, so it is always a good idea to submit your packages using the lowest unity version possible, this way you maximize your possible audience.

It would be nice if you could instead check “tested with this version” when uploading, as a 4.0 user nothing guarantees a 3.5 package will work for me for exemple so it’s a one way bonus that penalizes the early adopters (and thus early spenders).

Hey,

There is a new version of the Asset Store Tools available that should be working with 4.1

Let me know if there is any other issues going on.

@ronan, Yeah that’s a feature that’s in our roadmap, right now we assume full backwards compatibility (newer versions of unity will work with extensions developed for older versions), which is the most common, but not always the case.

That would be nice, as i often say the asset store is “the” reason why i picked unity as my engine, it’s a nice tool now but i hope it will get a lot more development as it could be so much better!

Ronan,

You can be sure about that

We have a long roadmap for the Asset Store and we are working hard on it! It has features that will benefit both end users and publishers as well.
We are aware that the Asset Store is a very important part of Unity that helps grow the ecosystem around Unity and because that we always are always looking for ways to improve it!

Cheers
