Asset Workflow Not Updating Every Change

I’m feeling very perplexed about the asset workflow for FBX / Maya Native files. When I make a change in Maya and save the Maya file or re-export the FBX file, a prefab that uses this file updates the vertex positions and keyframes but nothing else. To get node transforms to update (e.g. rotations on a mesh), I have to delete the FBX from a prefab instance in the Hierarchy, drag and drop the FBX onto the prefab instance and click “Apply” in the Inspector. Few questions:

  1. Why doesn’t everything in the FBX get updated after the file has been updated? Why ONLY vertex positions and keyframes?
  2. What do the editor commands Reimport and Refresh do?

Same issue here using unity 3. Refresh seems to be a fake button, lol.
