Assets or Open Source for physics of space flight

I’m wanting to develop a game that’s set in space. There are so many space flight sims out there that I can’t help but wonder if there’s any open source codes already or at least a complete asset package that I can just buy and I’ll just have all of the codes there to then further what I want to do with the game. My solution is to be able to NOT make a game from scratch, but to gather as much codes as possible involving the stuff that’s already been developed over and over again. I remember reading about a survey that says that most codes are about 90% repeating themselves so I really want to get my hands on those 90% and the other 10% maybe hire a programmer to do the rest.

I’m new to game development, if it wasn’t obvious already, but the idea of designing a game has always been a passion of mine. With all these great assets from the Unity store and the integration of everything of Unity itself, it excites me that so much can be done that doesn’t involve having to build most things from scratch. I just wanted to know if there’s a way that I can just hire some programmers and some artists and with the enormous resources that Unity website offers, including this forum, am I able to develop a indie game? My question has always been: do I need to be able to read code in order to make a game. Making a game has always been my dream, except the idea of coding just prevents me. I think I have great ideas for a unique and enjoyable game, I have the money to hire talents, but only thing is I just need to know more about game design and development itself. Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

I think you’ll have a difficult time collecting a bunch of code from assets and plopping them together if you don’t have at least some basic knowledge of what the code is doing.

The only way you’ll learn about how a game is put together is if you do it yourself, you don’t need to be pro whiz at coding to get started, actually you can start from no knowledge and do just fine. We have plenty of tutorials and projects you can look at to understand how games are put together, this is a great place to start http://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/projects/roll-a-ball

You could just hire some programmers and artists, but if you do not know how a game is put together, you will have a tough time leading them and understanding struggles they may encounter implementing your designs.
