Good question!

We are just starting this project and we think that giving free advertising is a good way to start… You don’t have anything to lose!

In the future, we may possibly:

  • Add paid banners.
  • Promote our own assets.
  • Accept donations.
  • Charge for the promotion.
  • Sell the website.

So how does it work? Did the asset store recently introduce discount coupons? Or does the user download the asset through you/or through the asset provider? Maybe its a payback scheme? You really should make it easy to find this stuff out.

If its not through the asset store you introduce a lot of overhead. How are updates handled? How do we validate purchases? Etc.

Sales are done through the Asset Store.

This is how we think it could work best:

  1. We agree on a week for the promotion.
  2. A few days before that week you create a package for review updating:
    • Price: You choose the discount.
  • Description: Adding the next text on top “XX% OFF as part of www.AssetStoreDeals.com weekly deals”.
  1. When the package review is approved, contact us and we will perform the promotion campaign (it may not be the week we agreed on if the review took more time… no problem).
  2. After the promotion ends, just create a new package for review to restore your price and description.

Please let us know if you think of ways to make this process easier. I will add the instructions on the website.

You do know that package approval isn’t instantaneous or anything, so chances are this wouldn’t work very well

Yes, I know… Unity has to change that! :wink:
This is why I added the line: “it may not be the week agreed on if the review took more time… no problem”.

We will promote for 24h when the package is approved, but the asset will be discounted for more days due to the time between approvals.

Site doesn’t seem to finish loading… white page with “Loading” nothing else unless you stop the loading process, when the site appears (in latest firefox on win7).

Just tested on win7 and latest firefox… it works for me… is anyone else having problems with the site?

That call is stopping the page load completing and is timing out after 22 seconds.

Thanks Whippets! I will check it.

I like the idea, but in practice most asset authors do this anyway through updates to their forum threads/maybe posting to the Unity3d subreddit. At the end of the day, an Asset which people don’t need/want still isn’t going to benefit a great deal from an advertised sale.

We think a good promotion can boost your sales. For example, Unity’s “24h SALE” is beneficial for sales. And our own “unofficial” sales could be to. The more people that see your asset, the more you will sell.

So… contact us to increase the visibility of your asset for FREE.

I think the main point of this isnt for assets that arent wanted or needed, but simply dont have the exposure to be known about

Exactly! There are lots of very good assets that aren’t selling simply because they don’t have the exposure.

Just as note to asset store sellers, the TOS states that if you do your own discounts/sales, you won’t be considered for official asset store sales promotions. May or may not matter to you, but something to bear in mind.

Doing your own sales seems like a stupid idea anyway, the whole beauty of official sales is the huge influx of promotion and exposure it brings about

Thanks for mentioning this, zombiegorilla. Yes, sellers should bear in mind that, as stated in the FAQ, the assets that you apply your own discounts on should not be the same assets that you have pending to be considered for the Daily Deals Sales, Madness Sales or Level 11 Sales.

The idea behind www.AssetStoreDeals.com is to give promotion to sellers’ own discounts, since many are not receiving much benefit from their own discounts due to lack of promotion. That’s where we’re here to help!
