Hey guys, wanted to share some thoughts about my game now that its been on the market for some time. Between the paid and free versions, there have been around 700 total downloads as of today, and over 1600 unique high scores set! I feel like its not necessarily a commercial success, but has had a good run so far on the market, enough to be profitable, and a big part of that is owed directly to unity forum members who showed interest and downloaded to try it out. Big thanks to all you guys for helping to both create, and enjoy asteroid buster!
My future plan is to create a sequel/reboot with fully three dimensional graphics, new power ups and different ship selection, perhaps even ship customization, and ofcourse high scores worldwide, with more info, such as device, and date of score. I want to apply the good bit of things I’ve learned about unity and c# in general, to improve performance of the ab framework, plus allow more elaborate levels and enemies.
I do feel like ab was a Indie success just because people play it. That’s about all i can ask for as an independent developer and publisher, and the experience of developing ab has only made my deep addiction to creating video games worse, and if my future projects i create do half as good as asteroid buster, I’ll never stop the process of spending tons of free time meticulously working in unity to get something fun and interesting to show the world.
I’ll be starting work on the ab2 project soon, upon completing my city traffic system in the coming weeks.
Congrats and kudos. You’ve finished a game and released it which automatically puts you in the top 1% of indie devs. That’s a hurdle most don’t cross. Self-published, and turned a profit. Rock solid man.
Thanks jmatthews, I hope to inspire some “could-be” unity devs out there to give it a shot sometime ya know. Got to hand it to Unity for streamlining the process!
BUMP - Update on those numbers, even in these two weeks its gone up to over 900 unique downloads, and over 2k high scores! I recently updated the paid version, which could be to blame for improving the recent downloads.
