Astrox, Hostile Space Excavation. (mini eve clone)

I thought i would share my latest greatest. This is my first unity project, and although it took me awhile to make the jump from flash to unity, i am so glad that i did. This is by far the best game I have created so far and I have been making games for almost 20 years. Anyway, I hope you guys like it. Keep in mind this is a browser game, so i had to keep the file under 20 megs.

Mine asteroids, Transport trade goods, hunt pirates in this procedurally created star system. Astrox – Hostile Space Excavation, is similar to EVE, with a sprinkle of Homeworld.

Sentenced to life for thought crimes against the Corporate Federation, you’ve been exiled to the mining system of Astrox. Forced to break rocks in hopes of buying your freedom, there is little chance of survival.

Fight pirate raiders with tons of weapons. Drones, Missile launchers, projectile weapons and lasers.

Dock with space stations, refine ore, sell trade goods, fit your ships.

Upgrade your ship modules.

Take it easy and mine valuable asteroids, refine the ore and craft / upgrade your modules.

Customize your galaxy, up to 50 star systems.

Please keep in mind this is a solo project, don’t be too hard on me. I had to create from scratch every single asset in the game, including all models, textures, sound fx, and music. I know there are areas for improvement, and I am very feedback friendly.

Thanks for looking guys

Looks super cool from the screenshots momoguru! I really like you released it for the browser.

A small question if you don’t mind - you mentioned the 20 meg file restriction. Where did you come about this information? Is this for Unity’s web player or is it from the hosting sites you used?

Thanks for the info. I plan to play this and give some feedback when I get a couple spare hours in 2025!

Most gaming websites that offer developers a showcase for their games have a file restriction around 20mb. otherwise, i have to host files offsite with longer loading times and such. anyway, thanx for checking out my game / post. all feedback is welcome.

Here is a new video demo-ing all the new stuff iv’e added since my last video.

Hey momoguru,
I like your game so far. Its very polished and has a clean interface. Would you mind to tell what premade assets you have used? Have you done the models and textures yourself?
I have played Eve-Online and see the influence to your game. I like the “small” systems where everything is on one grid.
Anyway, you have created a playable, complex and polished game. Kudos for that.

the only assets i used that i didn’t create was the 5 skyboxes recently added. the models i created with blender. here is a video that shows behind the scenes.

here is how i did the models and textures in blender.

Well, after watching the video i wanted to compile a list with complains about “bad” code and design and “teach” you how to do it “right”. But in the end of the video you properly explain why you do it this way. Its an interesting concept and I also struggle alot with increasing complexity of growing projects. I tried to “manage” this by applying methods of “good” code and design (or at least what is considered good in professional industry). But I get the feeling there is much additional code for “properly” managing required code. So I may give it a try and use “brute” code instead of “elegant” one. So in the end you teached me something ;).
Many thanks for the thoughts and inspiration. I want to express my apreciation again for what you have achieved here. Great work.
