O-o… Am I the only person in the world not interested in motion control for the most part?

I mean, it’s a neat tech, but it’s also quite gimmiky. Most of the stuff made for motion control is crap and inaccurate. It’d be worth it if devs took it seriously, but most don’t look at it past milking it.

Look at it from the other side. For example Wii is best selling console with millions of sold games.

But most are still crap games. I’m not saying there isn’t a market for people that don’t regularly play games, but most “gamers” tend to get bored really fast with motion games. Now, that said, I’d love something with a head mounted display and head tracking for a VR environment, but I don’t see that happening in the next few years due to cost.

Only time will tell. But given the revenue potential from both casual games and wii games that has clearly been demonstrated in recent years, it would be silly to dismiss this stuff as a gimmick.

This Asus product is interesting, not least because of the legal etc pitfalls of trying to market games for computers that use the Kinect sensor. The Asus stuff should also provide software drivers that are easy for the end user to setup, which is not the case with OpenNI stuff at the moment.

However I was most dismayed to see the intial developer info that Asus have released only makes reference to Windows, leaving some doubt about what hardware will be available that is aimed at mac users.
