I recall Jessy having issues with audio clicking, and I have googled and read some posts about it being due to using quicktime to manage the audio within.
I generated some clips in Ableton Live, and in Unity they “Click”. Using Quicktime they “Click” and using soundtrack they dont click.
Is there a workaround to get quality audio into Unity? Usualy with explosions etc I wouldnt even notice but this is for music loops.
Heres a scene and clips. I tried to PM them to someone but the form software is and has always been infuriatingly crap, and wont let me add attachments.
Sometimes I wonder if the problems ever end lol
clicks in quicktime
clicks in Unity
no clicks in soundtrack
no clicks when reimported into Abelton Live
?
I’m not sure why you’re not hearing the clicks in Soundtrack or Live, but I do (in Soundtrack at least; I don’t own Live). The samples begin at zero but they don’t end there.
I don’t know how much you know about digital audio, so I’ll give you a short primer just in case. Basically, here’s how it works: you store the position of your speaker as a certain value (half of your bit depth is for forward speaker motion, half is for backwards). This position is “sampled” at a certain rate, like 44,100 times per second. When you open an audio file in in Soundtrack, the “waveform” you are looking at is simply a graph of how the speaker is displaced in time. “Zero” represents the speaker at rest. It’s not a measurement of zero bits - zero bits is the speaker as far away from you as it can get - it’s a measurement of half the bit depth of the audio file. But we audio people tend to call it zero, and there’s typically a nice horizontal line drawn for it in audio apps.
If your audio file doesn’t both begin and end at the same value, then the speaker will be forced to attempt an instantaneous jump to a far-off position at the loop point, which results in a click “sound”. If the audio file doesn’t begin at “zero”, then you will have a click when you first start playing the file. So basically, if you want a looping audio file, it needs to end and begin at zero.
Now, none of this explains why you don’t hear a click in Soundtrack, and I do, but I will tell you that when I open your audio files, they begin at zero, but they don’t end there. Hence, they are not “looping” audio files.
Yeah, I reported that bug a long time ago. Shame it’s not fixed yet, then.
