Some Aussies showed interest in Australian Users Groups. So I made a website to being building those groups.
The idea is to first gather interested people (programmers, artists, companies, etc) in a nationwide group. Of course with enough members local groups should be created.
Can any Australian based Unity users, both professional and hobbyists please PM lazalong or myself so we can get you added to the Australian Unity Users Google Group/Mailing list.
As Unity is growing in popularity, especially since UT released Unity for free, there have been a massive amount of new users coming onboard and as an industry professional using Unity, I am often looking for local talent to contract out work too.
There are also many other local studios looking at adding Unity to their existing pipelines (or have already added) so having a managed Australian contact list and a way of getting in touch with each other would benefit all.
When you PM, please include your best email address to be contacted on, wether you are using Unity as a hobbyist or professionally, what versions (Desktop, iPhone etc) and of course, what state you are living in.
Melbourne-based also, interested in meeting/collaborating with other Unit developers. It’s my understanding that the user group in Melbourne has become fairly inactive, it’d be good to see a few meetups again.
If you’re serious about game development get involved with your local IGDA chapter. Find your local chapter and send the coordinator an email (Giselle in Melbourne or Truna in Brisbane, don’t know the others off hand) they’ll fold you into the other groups (often facebook stuff) from which all of the social events are coordinated.
