Auto import and build

hello, all

Recently been a query at my side for which i reffering to unity forums and refference. But couldn’t get the right thing i am searching for.

So,
(A)…I want to know if that can be possible to run Unity(the main programe) on a server and just sending a 3d object file with textures to the project that is needed to opened within its heirarchy.(Just like we import 3d model file in the PROJECT window in Unity application and than dragging to heirarchy to find make that appear on the 3d stage as in the perspective view)

(B)…As in continuation of the above. If with some script integration to make a “Build” directly from the script to the specified path controlled from some web service or database, to the unity running on the server.(this is also same the way we do Build in Unity application, but i am asking to do this with the script or some function or with some external call to the main Unity Application on server).

I think it can’t be done as to my knowledge upto now, but i feel may be there is something else to achieve this.

a) Potentially yes.
But you will not be able to use any special material without some clever material naming in the modelling app that allows you to find the right shader etc again in Unity.

b) If you store the place somewhere where unity can retrieve it and you get a) working to your satisfaction, this should be pretty well doable.

Your main problem is “build to a specified place”
Because unity will build unity3d files for web or whole applications, it will not allow you to build player usable content unless you have Unity Pro and build Asset Bundles for every single asset.

Another major problem is the server and the requirement that you write import and build scripts so you can call the asset processing right from the command line because opening the editor won’t work on the majority of servers due to the missing 3d acceleration.
