Auto toggle to MonoDevelop when opening a script

Hi, Windows 10 here. I would like Unity to automatically toggle to monodevelop instead of just showing the mono develop icon in task bar needs my attention by going orange when I click to open a script or edit a script from within unity. Is there a way to set this? Thanks!

I’m sorry I don’t know the answer to that — but you might be most rewarded to consider this. Script Inspector 3 is how I do my Unity coding all day, every day, and I’ve never been happier. I launch MonoDevelop maybe once every few weeks in order to set a breakpoint and step through some code; otherwise, I never use it at all.

Must be an issue with MonoDevelop and Windows 10?
I’m also using Windows 10, but Visual Studio instead. Whenever I click to edit a script in Unity, it automatically switches to Visual Studio.

I have to admit I hadn’t seen this problem before with Unity. Some quick searching for solutions didn’t turn up anything as almost no one else had seen the problem either. I strongly suspect this isn’t a problem with Unity but rather with Windows itself or a third party program that is stopping Mono Develop from taking focus.

I know this isn’t the answer you wanted but my advice would be to start looking at alternatives like Visual Studio or Script Inspector 3 (as recommended by @JoeStrout ). Starting with the next major release of Unity Mono Develop will no longer be included and based on the wording at the link below will have no support at all.
