Autodesk Character Generator

Some of you may remember Mixamo’s character generator (not Fuse). A couple years ago, Autodesk bought the character generator from Mixamo, and no one has heard much about it since, until now. Check this out:

I got a virus. …

epic, just made a character in my browser…$5 per character for paid versions or a free version…amazing.

edit::omg free version is great, has various settings for the generated character such as LOD for mesh and rig…also generates normal and spec maps.

Just created my first char, this is amazing. On the lowest setting 1900 polys, 3500 tris. Cloth is applied with texturing. Auto Rig.
I could make an entire game out of those

This was called Project Pinocchio during beta.

Autodesk… Cannibalizing everything.

I seen this before. It had another developer and went by a different name, but still as slow as hell.

Interesting. I made a test character and when I got it, it’s fully rigged and even skinned properly. I’m just not used to having “traditional” bones because I’ve been using the CAT rigging system all the time, but this is still nice. I can’t seem to find an option to make “naked” characters though, or maybe I just missed it since I just rushed a little bit to test this thing. I guess in most cases, the clothes that you can use even in the free version are good enough, but if you want to design your own stuff, you might have to remake the character yourself (or make adjustments to it).

The low poly version that’s available for free users is actually pretty good. I think it’s almost as good as most characters in the PS2 era, where hair was part of the texture of the head. It works for what it is and it seems to be useful if you just need characters to populate your scene.

This is the type of technology that I wish came as a normal feature of 3DS Max or Maya that you can use without having to go online to create characters.

I create all my characters using Zbrush from the ground up, but in case Zbrush decides to create a character generator from within the program, that would be a great thing! It’s going to be like one of those character customization features that you can find in wrestling or boxing games, except that since this is Zbrush, you’ll also be able to add details yourself later on after you form the base. It would be a bonus if the character can be auto-rigged and skinned as well just like this Autodesk Character Generator. I hope this little fantasy of mine would happen someday even if it’s just limited to humanoid characters lol!

It was evolver.com

I tried to configure a mecanim rig to a model but the fingers were kind of messed up…

Can a user of Fuse make a comparison, please?

I can’t find any info regarding commercial usage, anyone know?

Holy moly it’s slow… and still a little buggy. Some of the controls quit working for me. Once I got my character created I went through the generate step… and finally walked away and left it up. As of this morning, it’s still “generating” my character.

That’s weird. I generated 5 characters yesterday and while it was slow and would hang up, I just refreshed the page and hit generate again if it took more than a few minutes.

Haven’t tried the different rig types, it gives 3 options for free characters. Seems like there are no nude options only bikini underwear and top…

Weirdest part for me is I can’t find anywhere to buy tokens for the paid features…I’ve only read that it takes 5 tokens per character, and they cost $1 each, but can’t find anywhere to buy them…

Likely a browser submission problem. Try using Chrome if you are using IE 11.
