Autodesk GDC schedule... with a presentation "Unity Game Engine"?

Looks like they’ll be announcing their 2011 line-up at GDC :

But the interesting part (at least to Unity folks) has to be the second day presentation simply labeled “Unity Game Engine”.

“We are happy to announce Autodesk Unity2012” Oh well…

Not sure I like how Unity gets special treatment and is no mention of the bigger game engines.

Edit: exactly my thought :frowning:

Autodesk Unity? What…?

Yay, I can’t wait for Unity 4 to look like a patchwork quilt of tiny icons taking up 90% of the screen. /sarcasm

Seriously though, is there any Unity devs who can clear this up, or at least put our minds to rest that Autodesk haven’t just bought Unity.

Yeah instead of having screen filled with buttons, you need to write all the functions in code.

They mention Ubisoft, EA, Harmonix Music Systems and Eidos also and the Unity mention is only half an hour segment.
Of course I have no idea what might be going on, but it seems it could be one of those situations
where if they didn’t mention Unity some would say, “Why didn’t they mention Unity, it’s an important player in the field?”
and if they do, “Why is Autodesk mentioning them?”.

Unity uses and works with some Autodesk stuff, that’s all. (Beast, FBX, plus importing of Maya and Max files if you have those installed.)

That’s optimistic! I’d not expect it to get past project selection before crashing! :stuck_out_tongue:

Those make games, Unity makes an app to make games. Autodesk is buying up technology to do the same thing and haven’t made any secret of that. Unity’s presence is curious however you look at it. Is Epic invited, Crytek, Shiva and the other engines out there?

Hmm yeah, that does actually make way more sense now, lol. Still though, I’ll be glad when it’s over and we know for sure. It’s kinda like “the day you know you’re gonna get dumped” the waiting sucks hehe.

LOL!

Well, I think its related to Beast since Autodesk did buy the company that owns it. Its probably related to that partnership. After all, I am sure they don’t mind advertising Unity if it helps them get more money from Beast.

Basically autodesks just likes us very much. Unity supports their 3D modelling tools very well and we are using autodesks beast in Unity. So we have a presentation showing Unity in their booth.

I’m sure that’s settled some frazzled nerves.

Hell yeah lol.

The worst part about Autodesk buying up Unity would have been the inevitable loss of unity answers, the wiki, the forum, the online documentation, assets and resources, as they do have a habit of forwarding everything to one page per product and some unhelpful pdf brochure. I could have handled small annoying icons, but even the Jedi would have felt the loss of all those insanely helpful pages, haha.

Thanks Joachim!

So this has nothing to do with Unity - right ?

I almost believed it to be some kind of boosted locomotion system featuring some new node-based UI which Unity devs were cooking silently

Excellent and reassuring news. I’ve seen too many of my favorite tools get gobbled up and then languish these past few years.
