I was trying many modelling and animation programs and liked 3ds max the most, but just before buying it I found out that all Autodesk software can be used only in country of purchase (or EU). Is Autodesk only one with this condition in license?
I browsed through the license. I do not know if what I am saying is 100% correct. But it seems as though you are allowed to make an archival copy of the software for your own personal backup and it cannot be used outside the territory of purchase. This is to prevent studios from buying a licensee and then shipping an archival copy to a sub-contractor in another location.
Do you travel a lot? I do not see this being a problem for you. They should consider the territory of purchase the purchasers location not the sellers. So if you were to buy from Journey Ed you wouldn’t be limited to using the software in the region they are located that wouldn’t make sense.
There is a term in EULA for all Autodesk software:
Link: LICENSE AND SERVICES AGREEMENT
so it shouldn’t matter in which shop you buy it.
I live in one country and study in another so I asked Autodesk about this and they told me their Terms and Conditions are non-negotiable and I can’t use it outside of country I bought it in. With their subscription you can leave territory for 90 days, but it is not enough for me.
So I’m learning Blender now ![]()
The problem is that the license in this case is written for a professional company type situation in which such travel is not expected. The educational license may be different, but then you can’t use it on personal projects (if you are using them for income).
But I <3 blender. So best of luck to you!
Thanks. First impression is great.
