Automatic Footsteps

Soon to be Now in the Asset Store! Advanced Footstep System | Audio | Unity Asset Store Assign sounds to textures, in categories like walk, run, idle, etc. Any material that can be stepped upon (terrain or geometry) just makes sound! No code needed on your part. Just a bunch of sounds.

Thanks for any constructive feedback

I was just getting ready to update my old footstep system, so this comes just in time. Any idea how soon this will be ready?

I would really appreciate your feedback, can I IM you on Skype or email?

Demo of early phase of 3rd person feet is now on that site. Should be in Asset Store next week!

i did this kind of work awhile ago…it’s not that hard to make it…but it’s hard to optimize it for less frame drops.

It’s now available: http://u3d.as/content/qlc/advanced-footstep-system/6o2

Does this work when walking on unity terrain ?

So you just add the texture used on the terrain ?

Yes indeed. And if your character is atop more than one texture (where they blend together), you have the option of having it pick either the most dominant texture, or use a random pick which is weighted by how much of each texture is showing. Like if rocks and grass are blended, and it’s 80% grass, there’s an 80% chance that the sound will be grass.

This is actually a really good idea. It would add for a great realistic effect or some tension if it’s a horror game. What is your planned price?

Twenty bucks. I’ll be posting better example and tutorial videos soon. Shows off features like volume variation, so even if you have only one audio clip it sound a bit different, more realistic. More features are planned but no schedule for when they’ll go in (but you’ll get free updates if you buy now). Feedback welcome!

And I have another product in the wings, Audio Brush, which I hope to have up within a month, that’s all about sound design and adding real ‘presence’ to games.

Hi, Dave.

Will this work with a 2D platformer?

Thanks.

I have not tried it that way, but it might. If you can supply a simple sample scene I can check it.

Maybe you could try it on the free Unity Projects: 2D Platformer? I believe the feet just have one collider at the moment, however.

Thanks!
