Just somthing I tried to google but never came across anything useful.
For all those developers out there who release titles for iOS what kind of development time do your games take? I realise that this question is quite sparse as some games take longer than over. But Ive heard some studios releasing a game every other week.
Our studio is developing some in house titles but our average game is nearing the 6 week to 2 months margin.
It all depends. One of my games was made in one week (after work hours), others took me several months. All my current games were made while I still had a day job, and right now I also do freelance work (websites), so I can’t really say how long it would take if I did it full-time.
I dont think theres such a thing as an average development time. It all depends on the scope of the project and the number of people in the team, and also how much time per week is dedicated to the project.
Space Hopper has taken me, on my own, about 1 month so far and will probably take the same length of time again to get it all polished and tested and submitted. I work full time as a tutor so development has only happened in the evenings and occasional weekends.
Had I worked on it full time this dev time could obviously have been reduced.
Then you’ve got your research, blogs, marketing and all of that stuff too.
Tiltz ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tiltz/id380467754?mt=8 ) was my first iPhone app and also my very first Unity game. I estimate my raw development time was about 50 hours even including the learning curve…but it took about five months to roll out when you throw in website development and the fact it was something I only did after work hours. As Dannyflint mentioned, there’s certainly more things to factor in.
I started another project and it already looks like I’ll be in the 50-60 hour range for that one too…both projects are fairly simple though.
