Average Polycount for Weapons?

I’ve been modeling guns for a long time. Now that I’m thinking about doing this for some extra cash, I’m just wondering what a good polycount would be. I’m usually somewhere around 2.5k - 3k. Is that too high?

Any tips would be appreciated, Joey.

It depends on for what platform are you thinking to model.

This actually depends on the plataform you’ll be publishing… For iOS and Android devices, I would say a 1k as maximum. But for PC, 2.5k ~3k is fine. If you want to make a game like AAA games, you can put more detail. But be aware that the more you have in polys, the more heavier the game will run.

pretty sure polycount goes a lot higher, team fortress 2, a game targeting users with low end hardwares have weapons that go up to 7.2k triangles, yet have very good LOD and runs smoothly even on a dell pc.

He is talking about Polys not Tris.

Yes, but Unity and most things work with Triangles. That’s how every game measures it to.

I did not know this! I always keep my weapons below 1k, and rely on good texturing to do my dirty work.
