Background tasks "Baking Shaders" taking up 90% CPU for 15+ min

I’ve noticed in Unity 2020 when working with HDRP projects sometimes the editor starts “Baking Shaders”. This is a ‘background task’ but takes up 80-99% of my CPU, draining my battery and kicking my laptop fans onto high gear for upwards of fifteen minutes.

Is there any way to cancel this once it’s started? Or prevent it from happening? It’s really really annoying

My solution was “stop using HDRP”
