Okay so I have tried literally everything, from doubles faces to backface tolerances, and nothing is working. Been trying for 6 hours! Any help is much appreciated.
they could be oddly stacked, like two objects very close to each other.
You want to see how the object looks on the lightmap itself.
Select the object and the mesh renderer component should let you view this.

Where do i view the mesh renderer? Sorry somewhat new.
The problem isnt only the black decals, but also the black spots on the walls
if you want to bake the lights correctly you need to have proper UVs on all meshes involved.
This topic is too involved for me to write here but there are many tutorials on web about this.
just search for preparing meshes for baking lights, or baking lights in unity
I think I have watched every baking video and read every baking article on this topic, and nothing has helped. Been researching for past 2 days.
Fixed it last night. Area lights got imported facing up, so the light was being reflected off the ceiling. Rotating them fixed it!
