BARBARIAN MALE ( rigged,skinned and animated )

This is the ultimate pack to start designing an action RPG project. This huge package contains a barbarian model customizable with 2 beards, a long hair ( each with 4 color variations ) and an armor set of 8 pieces. 12 props are included : battle axe, 2 handed sword, hatchet, recurve bow and arrow, crossbow and bolt, potion ( stamina, health, mana ), skewer with 3 different pieces of food ( steack, fish and chicken ), an animated chest, an animated lever, a push able block, a campfire and a rotative mechanism.

The pack contains the most humungous amount of animations to cover almost any needs, among this 4 different 10 hit combos ( unarmed, 1 hand weapon, 2 handed weapon and 2 weapons ), dialgue animations to talk to NPC, interact animations ( campfire, lever, rotative mechanism, chest, potion ), a big set of climbing animations ( compatible with the character system )

The geometry is 11,2 Ktris with all the props. character alone is 7,8 Ktris. The character will come with 40964096 texure ( diffuse / spec / normal ), a 256256 texture (diffuse / alpha ) for the hair and another 2048*2048 ( diffuse / spec / normal / reflection ) for the armor parts.

Should have 2 different 2-handed weapons ( battle axe and sword ) and some range weapons : hatchet, bow and crossbow. Since ther are animations relying on some props, these will be included. So the pack will also contain a boot camp fire, a skewer with chicken thigh, piece of steack and fish, a flask, a lever ( with the ref dummy point to position exactly the character), a rotative mechanism with big bar ( with the ref dummy point to position exactly the character), a push able cube ( with ref dummy on each side to position correctly the character ), a treasure chest ( with the ref dummy point to position exactly the character).

I would highly recommand to use the character system from RobinS to start using this pretty much completed asset.

I know there are a lot of " barbarians" characters out there but it s a nice way to demonstrate anatomy and stuff in the portfolio.

This creation would be the first character of a future HEROIC FANTASY HEROS FULL PACK that i m planning to do in a not too far future.I 'll create also the female variation for each of these heros. The pack should contain : barbarian / knight / warlord / wizard / assassin / elf / dwarf / monk

@MaDDoX : thanks, i’m glad you appreciate the actual state of this asset. should begin the texturing today once i m done with a little animation contract work.
Topology is ok for game but not for rendering ( a few tris here and there at not visible spots to optimize a lil bit the mesh ). Well i guess here nobody cares about rendering lol …

@OnionForFun : thanks. Just using some of the standard tools for the game / entertainment industry : 3DS max / z brush / photoshop.

currently adding a second haircut ( like conan ) with a forehead armor. i might add a horn helmet also. and a beard to get some more customisation for the model.
Some of the body armor parts will be skinned to fit he character geometry during animation. So developper will need to combine meshes for performance optimization

This is really great work! I however, feel that the face could be a little less blocky. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still great work, but people generally have more round faces than that. Just a suggestion, take it or leave it. :slight_smile:

well thanks guys for the feedback. i want this character to be buff and kinda rude with a lage “square chin” kinda. So i will keep the direction i m on. Updated the first post with the current WIP. Currently in animation step. Should give him as much animation as possible to match the wonderfull character system from RobinS. So it should be around 90 animations ( more or less ).

Updated the first post with the work in progress of the animations included with the character. Currently about 70 animations are done. I will probably add 2 other 10 hit combo : one handed weapon and 2 handed weapon, sleeping anim, pushing and pulling blocks anim, open chest anim, take object ( down and up ), death ( front, back ), balance move, take potion, eat, cook nearby fire bootcamp.Total would be around 110 animations included in the BARBARIAN MALE HERO PACK.
In a future update will probably create some riding horse animations also.

@RobinS : if you have a chance to look at the video, i would be really glad to have your critic and comment about how to handle the climbing animations. Thanks in advance for your time.

I hope asset should be ready during next week … have many different things to do. then i’ll go on with another creature to update the HEROIC FANTASY CREATURES FULL PACK before going back to the barbarian female hero character.

That looks really excellent! Good job man !
climbing is done with a bit root motion and transform translation, tweaked a while for this.
but it looks similar to your fall animation with a smooth up and down curve on the root.

thanks for the kind words. But unfortunately your comment didn’t help that much … I would need to know if during the pull up from edge it’s required to translate the whole character up to the finish point. if you can show a render of this animation made by you it would be awesome ( just a quick render, send me a link … well if you have the time to do that … ). On my end i feel that the animation is ok but I’m absolutely not sure about the character position in space during this anim.
My falling animation is just a loop played on place followed by the hit the ground anim. whereas my pull up animation translate the root up to the arrival point : means pretty up high in the world coordinate ( let s say animation start with root at vector3(0,1,0 ) and finish at vector3(0,3,0.3) )

It’s pretty tough to decide a price for this almost complete asset … 170 animations for the moment ( and maybe more will be added down the road such as bow animations, crossbow animations, ride horse … ) So the price would be around $100.00. With unity 4 and mechanim being right at the corner it would be a must have asset that you could re use to stick retargeted animations to many others humanoid characters.

Currently on a custom contract work so sorry this asset has be delayed for a bit.
Maybe we’ll decide to create a custom pack with this character, a special offer like for the 10 first buyers of the HEROIC FANTASY CREATURES FULL PACK get the barbarian for free. or buy the barbarian and receive 4 creatures for free. ( he need to kick some creatures butt with all this combos :slight_smile: )

just for those who are interested in this asset :here is the most powerful combo this character can perform ( a brutal 2 weapons 10 hit combo that can be considered as 17 hit combo !!! ) My favorite. Since the character system from RobinS will handle bow ,and shooting anim. it’s been decided to create for the first release thow hatchet, bow and crossbow animations. ( these props will also be included ).

animations are now done!!! more than 200 animations will be included in the full pack. It’s been decided to release this asset in a starter pack, a full pack and animations add ons.

Starter pack will only include the barbarian and its hand weapon, the 10 hit combos ( unarmed, 1 hand and 2 hand weapons not the 2 weapons one ). the standard moves : walk, run, strafe, turn, jump ( with the weapon variation ). It would just be an asset considered as an anemy character.

The full pack ( is self explainatory ) will contain everything : all the animations all the props on which the animations rely on. this pack will receive free upgrades for the customer ( of course updates and fixes are free )

Some animations add on in case some developper want to add some new capabilitiers to the starter pack :

2 weapons anim add on

world interaction add on with props ( sit, drink flask, sleep, chest, lever, cube, big bar … )

NPC interaction add on : the dialogue animations

ahahah! good one, but my main reference / inspiration was the old school Conan. It’s a really nice concept though. Hope that means you appreciate the upcoming asset.
