Basic Unity for iPad question

I have never used Unity… I got a trial and then got busy with other work and ran out of time. And got an extension and opened it up and then got busy with other work and lost that time too…

But i have a client who is interested in developing a simple app for iPad.

What do i need to do this kind of work?

1 - Unity
2 - iPhone extension?
3 - apple computer of some kind
4 - iPad

Is the export pretty straight forward? I have read some stuff on the forum and not sure that it is?

I realize that this is a very basic question but hope someone can enlighten me. I have done similar work with Quest3D so am interested in porting a few customers over to Unity instead. Especially because they want to use iPads

Thanks

  1. Thats right, you must buy unity iphone addon ($399 for nonpro, $1500 on top of pro for iphone pro)

5 is missing: active iphone developer subscription with apple, $99 / year at least.

if you are talented and you have serious 3d-realtime experiences it’s totally worth investigating into iOS-app development with Unity. But you need time for this. A lot of time!
first you need a intel based mac.

Ok so i have to look at the differences between the iPhone versions thanks

And number 5… Can anyone do this or are there some special qualifications?

Thanks

Ok i have no idea what you are talking about with this but i will look for some info unless you can point me to the proper spot.

So an intel based mac of some sort for any development correct. I will have to talk to my mac buddies as i am just windows currently.

Thanks

The bucks to pay it and being in a country where you can become an iphone developer.

for most the second applies, the first is up to your money tree

You need to be able to legally sign contracts, so people not old enough to do that generally have their parents do the paperwork.

i’m sorry. forget my comment it was stupid!

No. only if you want to make apps for iPhones, iPads or iPods. That is because you need to install the iPhone SDK which only runs on intel-based macs. And it looks like (i just looked it up for you) as if it must run Snow Leopard as OS.

Right, its 10.6.3 on intel mac at the time.

And “for any” basically still holds cause you can’t set a project into iphone mode without being on a mac, unity will not allow it, making development a bit tricky as there is stuff that will work thats not present, you don’t have the remote, etc

If you want to do Unity development on Macs at all, you need an Intel-based Mac, unless you stick with Unity 2.6 and don’t upgrade.

Ok so i just turned 41 so i think i can sign my own stuff but i will have to check with my mom…

Yes the whole point of this post is development for iPad so an intel based Mac is a must then.

There arent a lot of options for an iPad any specs there i should know about?

Just looked up iOS. Now i know what that is and finally found some info on the programs and fees. Could not find the difference between basic and enterprise but i expect basic would be good enough for me. Not sure what that does for me yet or if it is just a necessary thing you have to have.

So Are there extra steps you have to make to develop for the iPad or are the Unity dev tools pretty good for simulating and exporting?

Q

I am looking at macs now… Are there specific graphics needs that would be helpful for development?

Can i get away with a mini? Or should i shoot higher?

Thanks
