Batching and embedded materials pipeline

I am trying to set up batching in my project for some late, much needed optimization.
I notice that the new Unity import model default is to embed the material though, which means each model will have its own material and result in a lot of batches. Is the artist supposed to take care of this in the model software or is there some way to tell Unity to use the same mat and texture as an other model using the same shader and texture atlas?

You can assign other materials OVER the embed materials.

I’ve made in my projekt a libary of standart materials for as much as i can. with static batching all will be batched together to 1 drawcall each material.
Every 3D Mesh ony can have 1 material! Else batching will not work.
