Battlefield 3

EA did something right.

Graphically this looks amazing, gameplay wise this looks exactly like Modern Warfare or any other warfare game.

Its not just the graphics, they have a interactive sound display that requires a intense sound card. The Frostbite Engine is designed with a interesting Sound Interface. The Graphics are nice. The only thing I really did not like aboutt he video is that the Tank Treads did not make a impression I do not think. The great graphics and sound interaction make this game something I wouldnt mind just watching someone else play. It is the first game I can ever say that for. It is like a cinematic. Not only is the destruction in the multiplayer awesome but the single player is the best I have ever had a demonstration for.

What relevance does this have to unity?

Its in the Gossip Area.

@ charliesamways it’s a game and people who develop for Unity are interested in games. If you as a game developer don’t pay attention to any games they you miss out on interesting gameplay or technological advances and will be behind the times.

@ josh Yeah, I agree that that would be a game I would be much more interested watching then playing. I could pay attention to the details without having to worry about not dying and stuff like that.

Developer company bohemia does military simulations that various counties use for troop training even the American Army takes notice. VBS2.is the addon they use.

Official Simulation Army Addons http://www.bisimulations.com/

Wow that ARMA 3 Trailer is that even a game lol?

Updated the Bohemia post if people have some interest
incidentally Codemasters owns the Rights of the Title Name Of “Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising” which bohemia was the original developer.

Free version of arma 2 is coming this month, that bf3 video looks amazing!

That new engine looks really great. Lighting just looks right and very realistic.

Graphics, the sound, the lighting, all looks very nice and personally i like war games and yeah am waiting for bf 3 also. Also goes to show the power of frostbite engine i guess.

arma is only for addicts.
Anyone who ever played ArmA II will already tell you that and ArmA III isn’t going to make it any simpler
The game is really as if you took the good old janes simulations (AH 64 Longbow etc) and added further elements from shooter to it, instead of taking a shallow shooter like quake adding additional “light realism”

ARMA and BF are not even playing the same genre therefor in the end  (as Need for Speed and Forza don’t play in the same, its arcade vs simulation there too)

The part that A-10 can AFTERBURN away after dropping the bomb disturb me to no end!!

I liked the concept of Arma but always found the controls felt clunky and the camera never felt quite right, also the graphics were lacking.
Arma3 I hope they will pull it off this time.

And oh yeah, BF3, absolutely amazing. Would be proud to add that one to my indie portfolio :stuck_out_tongue:

Hehe, I’d like to make a quick parenthesis…

lately I’ve seen a slightly noticeable rate of locked threads, but why? Because they weren’t relevant to unity 3d?

How can people gossip exclusively about unity without their thread falling onto the other areas that have been created for most unity purposes?

If a thread is not offensive, and feels like a gossip, and can be described by this:

… then I don’t see the problem!

I would suggest instead of blocking people’s discussions, put a different description. So people can take their threads somewhere else, rather than start something and get blocked halfways.

That’s all! Thx!

The whole bit in BF3 is basically the tank run from Crysis with better graphics, kind of.

I didn’t see anything there that made me excited. Drive a tank in a cartoon way that’s been polished in many, many shooters? Check. Be the amazing hero, whose accuracy is all the allows your unit to survive? Check. Scripted death of comrades, so that you feel like you’re in a movie? Check. Omniscient overhead POV to “direct” fire onto a target in what can’t even be described as a mini-game? Check.

IDK. I really feel like this genre hit a major wall with Modern Warfare 2, and is now officially in game-design rut. Don’t think that will kill sales, but it’s a yawn just viewing that video, it just doesn’t have any moments in it that didn’t feel completely scripted.

I loved Battlefield Bad Company 2, I thought the destructible environments were awesome, but there was a huge lack of urban environments which made destructible buildings few and far between. However, with the new BF3 online gameplay footage, it looks like the multiplayer maps will be focused around urban areas, meaning intense firefights in streets, buildings, rooftops, subways, parks. So if you’re being pinned down in a street by suppressive fire, blow open a wall into a building, run up the stairs into the rooftop, reign lead on their position, and get the hell out before someone blows up the entire building on you.

Un-scripted destructible environments is what is making me buy this.

Ive already paid my $60.

I preordered it months ago on amazon.co.uk

But as for unscripted destrubtible environments: Unless DICE seriously enhanced the engine the destructability still sucks as much as in X-Com Enemy Unknown soon 20 years ago, actually even more, cause in BF:BC2 it was not completely destructable, only predefined areas. You can blow of the whole bottom of a building basically it just won’t fall. BF:BC2 suffered from this too.
Without having the risk of the house parts dropping onto you there is just a relevant aspect missing on the destructability out of my view. Unsure if the explosion after the dropping wall parts is a real sign of this changing or a predefined object that does this explicitely there but I’m looking forward to the SP
