BDef Tower Defense (Web Player)

My tower defense game, BDef, is finally finished and ready to be played! BDef is a tower defense strategy game in which you must guide enemy bots through a maze of defense towers. Each enemy bot destroyed yields an amount of scrap metal which is used to build new defense towers.

BDef offers 4 defense towers with three variants each and nine different enemy bots to defend against. There are four levels with random elements to vary the game play experience. BDef is available for free via the web player on the BDef Homepage.

If you’d like to see BDef along its development cycle check out the thread I had going in the WIP section: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/172891-B-Def-Tower-Defense/page3

Just played, good work.
Had a hard time figuring out the bad guys route tho, made me restart to win the first levels

Thanks. One probably needs to play each level at least once in order to get a feel for optimal tower placement. This was a really fun project and I learned a lot. I’m already thinking about what my next project is going to be

Nice job. Looks really good. I liked how you can create the enemy’s path with your defenses. It reminds me of another tower defense I played on my tablet a while back. Good Job! Keep it up!

BDef really doesn’t bring anything new to the table so it probably resembles a lot of tower defense games. BDef was more of a stepping stone for me, from the beginning the whole project was designed to be a learning experience for myself so I could get a good grasp on some areas of game development that I hadn’t done yet. It provided me an opportunity to improve upon my texturing/modeling and animation abilities, but mainly I wanted to learn about path finding, path smoothing, storing and accessing information with a tile grid and general strategy game based design. Personally I feel that I’ve met all the goals I set for myself with this game and can now build upon what I’ve learned with bigger and more expansive games.

I had thought about doing a multiplayer version of BDef in which there are two players each with their own base defending against waves of enemies. While the player would use his resources to build defense towers at the end of each wave he would also be given the opportunity to spend resources to bolster the forces being sent over to his opponents base. In addition to that there might have been new offensive towers such as a ballistic missile tower that could be used to damage/destroy towers in the opponents base. Can’t say I’ll get around to doing that, I might, but I’m a little tapped out on BDef right now

Sorry I didn’t post anything in the past few weeks; I haven’t been on the forums for a while. Congratulations on finishing BDef. I’ll play it later and let you know what I think. The multiplayer concept is good, but you should definitely take a break from working on this project. It’s not productive to work on one project assiduously without a break for a long period of time.

Keep on doing what you love and loving what you do.

Good advice Metabble! I did in fact take a break from this project, and Unity as a whole matter of fact. Over the last couple of weeks I decided to cleanse the pallet so to speak by developing and releasing a tabbed Android file manager which you can find on my site here: happymanager.

Honestly I just needed an app so I could work with zip files on my phone, but didn’t want to end up with some ad supported garbage so I ended up programming a fully featured file manager with zip support

Anyway I might take a break from programming for a brief period of time, maybe play a game of civ or something
