Beast's algorithm

Hello! Do you know which algorithms of global illumination are using in Beast?

is it of importance which algorithm it uses along its photons, given you can not influence it when generating the lightmap in Pro? (without pro you have no GI)

For my scientific work at the university I want to find out what the algorithms used in modern game engines.

If you can contact the original people (Illuminate Labs) you could get a good answer, but Autodesk just bought out Beast so you probably would have a lot of red tape.
