Because textures can make all the difference

Hey guys, I wasn’t really sure where to post this, it’s sort of question/challenge type deal. I was just looking at some 3d models that someone stated “Looks like n64 models”, but I was looking at it and the models themselves seamed alright, but the textures weren’t very good. This made me start thinking about the difference between a bad texture job and a professional one. So the challenge is this, post two pictures of your model, one with a bad texture job, the other with a good one. The point of this is just to see how much a good texture can add to a low poly model. This is a learning experiment, something to do in your spare time. I’m still learning about modeling and texturing myself, which is why I posted this, and I think it could help other 3d modelers as well (Not to mention a chance to show off  )

I’ll be looking forward to it.

My modeling skills is developing, but currently not much beyond very simple models, and uv texturing is still very confusing. (Difficult to make things look they way I want them to) so I cannot contribute with images by my own, yet, but I’m very interested in seeing other peoples comparisons!

N64 textures can be a result of bad uv mapping as bad uv mapping will result in waste texture space on models. By n64 I assume you mean low res textures.

UV mapping is easy. You will be enlightened once you learn how to select faces, apply a regular unwrap or map to selected faces then just “unroll it as flat as possible”

Do that for things its attached to then stitch them back up. Get used to feeling like its pastry and a rolling pin. Its necessary to break verts in the uv editor before you can make any great strides.
