Hi.
I am new to games design but I really want to make my own game. I tried game engines such as UDK but was toild that Unity might be more helpful for a beginner. After downloading Unity and watching some tutorials i started to wonder if i would need other programs alongside Unity. Could someone please tell me if this is true?

You don’t need anything other than Unity to create a game, but if you’d like to create your own assets (meshes, animations, textures, audio, etc), you’d need programs to handle that.
Yes, you need a modeling app, a graphics editor, a sound effects app, and a music creation app, depending on the sort of content you’re creating. Also a code editor, though a couple are included with the Unity download. Unity has no built-in content creation ability aside from the terrain editor. This is intentional, since that way you get to use whatever you’re already used to.
