Beginner: Is my inherited computer enough to run Unity?

I Inherited a Lenovo G50- 80 Laptop from my aunt, but I used to use a desktop for Unity. However, when I run the tutorial, and start the game, the Frame Rate instantly drops. Should I buy a new computer or is this enough? (Specs included below for convenience) Thanks!

Hey there,

It would all come down to the complexity of the project. I would say that a device like that may run into issues with a lot of the projects we put out today.

It’ll be difficult to tell you what it can and can’t make - but with a device having 4 GB Memory, you will be severely throttled.

What computer do you use?

Well, I am merely a Community Manager, not a developer so I don’t have a dev PC. I just game on my machine

This laptop will be an extremely poor performer. A slow dual core CPU, no dedicated GPU, no SSD, only 4GB of RAM, and a screen resolution which will make it very difficult to use the editor. Basically on all marks it is way below what you would want.

There’s lots of threads on computer recommendations, but real quick as a place to start I’d suggest 16 GB RAM, 512GB SSD (not HDD), 6 core CPU, Nvidia 1650 Super or better, 1080P display or better. Though actual requirements depend very much on your specific projects.
