Beginner Question

Hello all,

First off, I am new to Unity. I found it while looking for a solution to an issue that has been giving me problems for some time. I am hoping to find some help for this very specific issue but I can definitely see myself becoming interested in Unity game creation.

After looking through these forums in the hopes of finding an answer without having to bother anyone with my question, I found that I could not find any solution of even example of what I am looking to do.

I also found an incredible community of intelligent and almost rabid Unity fans.

Maybe someone will see this as a challenge? Maybe someone will say “go pound salt”? I hope it will be the former but either way I wanted to give it a whirl.

Here is my goal: I want to develop a GUI (not do be confused with the Unity GUI or the game GUIs that can be crafted with Unity) that is similar to the “Sim Creator” in the Sims product line or the numerous “I am about to start a new MMORPG game, i need to dress up my character”. I want a 2D model - a paper doll, if you will - that I can select different outfits, hairstyles, eye colors, etc.

I then want to be able to export these character creations to PNG or JPG.

I developed this concept in Adobe Flash and it is - shall we say - lackluster…

Any help would be appreciated. I wouldn’t even call myself a “noob” as I simply want to use Unity to a certain specific end (though I do hope to look into it in more depth, should I ever have the time).

Thank you for your time.

137 views and not one reply? What I am looking into doing must be truly difficult.

Or this community is not what I thought…

I would shorten your post and get straight to the question. When people see big posts that don’t get straight to the point they click out pretty quick. Also a better place to ask would be Unity Answers instead of Unity forums.

But just to be clear you want to create a changing room in Unity and then be able to export out an image out of Unity?

Yes. That is exactly what I want. I will head over to the answers site. Thanks!

Or what you are asking for cannot be summed up with a simple post and would require an entire tutorial series to accomplish what you are asking.

Look at EZGUI or NGUI. I have heard that Unity may have or will be incorporating it into their program. Anyhow, these plugins handle input, graphics, GUI type stuff.

Thank you, renman3000. I will look into those but I am really really new and unskilled. Which leads me to my next option. If this is a fairly complex task - as drewradley suggests - would anyone like to make a small commission for creating a tutorial for this? It would be for the community and not just me. Let me know and thanks again.
