Best alternatives to Steam for indie publishing

In the past I’ve only ever published games on the iOs App Store and Google Play, but I’m considering doing releases for PC also. Does anyone have any experience with indie self-publishing on app stores such as Desura? Which do you think are the best?

Didn’t EA had plans on getting indies on Origin?

If you look at those numbers I would steam or nothing, or maybe start selling them on your own site (which I think the micro is from).

Well Steam has the huge userbase. And those numbers speak for themselves.
My game took 2 days on Greenlight to get the same exposure it took 6 weeks to get on Desura.

Anyone have any tips for frameworks to use for self-selling?

Framework for what? Copy protection? Integrated purchasing?

What about selling your game using one of those services that let you sell files?

There is no real alternative for Steam yet. Its like saying what is alternative market to Forex (currency exchange) in terms of income, the one mentioned is superior in gathered income or sales. But Desura for now is good option at least it gives you ability to sale game to some number of people, and you can even publish non-finished WIP projects. But if you are serious about game, then try to get in Steam, use alpha- pre order from website or Kickstarter.

For purchasing and digital distribution. I’ve considered using something like e-junkie.com to handle this, anyone have any thoughts?
