I’m currently working on my first Unity game with some friends and I am doing very well overall, but there’s tons I don’t know or understand. What’s the best way to get comprehensive knowledge of Unity? I have asked 3 questions on the forum and never got a decent response yet to any of them. I didn’t think that would be the case with so many experts around.
That’s a good place to start. I think that there is a 3.x version of that book coming out soon so DON’T buy the 2.5 version. Go to PACKT publisher and see what I mean.
Alternatively, I can recommend ‘Beginning 3D Development with Unity All in One by Sue Blackman’ This has a good range of code from simple to more complex and the project is based around an adventure game rather than a FPS. Adventure games have more scope for fun and challenges.
I recently bought the Beginning 3D Development with Unity all in one by Sue Blackman. I think its pretty good, nice and thick, lots of pages(970 to be exact), and plenty of info. Havent gone through the whole of it yet obviously.
Hello
Not Directly related to Unity but a very good companion, I recoment to read “Basics of Game Design” from michael E Moore
The book is rather complete and covers from a High level perspective various aspect of designing video games (unit movements, combat resolution …). The Author illustrates his concepts with practical examples.
I am reading two other books, dedicated to Unity … I’ll give other feed back
All the books are good for what they do. If you are looking strictly for a book any of them will do (I own all of them). Personally though after trying to teach people Unity I have found the Walker Boys videos and then an investment in a member sponsorship for 3D Buzz to be the best option. They both have a monster amount of content broken into small chunks. After those do a search in this forum for genre specific tutorials like rpg, fps etc.
