Careful, some of those low end devices do not have proper GPU or CPU for 3D graphics or Unity development.
I’d recommend a Nexus One or Samsung Galaxy S device as good test device. The lowest hardware specs I would go for compatibility/performance is probably the Motorola Droid Milestone (A855)
Anything you get make sure it is OpenGL ES 2.0 compatible.
check out zte blade maybe its cheap and kind of good, dunno about taking unity tho
A friend of mine gave me a device like this, a cinese one, because android and stuff… I was very surprised and happy about it even it feel soooo cheap on hands.
BUT then I turned it on.
Hell, one of the worst thing I ever seen: touchpad is single touch (!!!), is cheap and works really really really bad.
Android is slow and is not official, even surfing on the net is bad and slow.
On the market most (maybe all.) unity games don’t work (are even displayed), I installed my apk and worked (!!!) BUT with a lot of bugs and HORRIBLE graphic glitches - so completely useless.
Angry birds works, I was very surprised, but a bit slow (I tryed only a few levels, btw…).
I think “yours” is this type of hd.
So, my tip: stay away from this sh++
Thanks for advice, will steer away from cheap ones methinks. still, would be great to know if theres a cheap one that works!
I bought the Samsung Galaxy S SCL I9003, which after a bug I though was bad but I found out it was an editor problem…
Now, after 2 mounths, I think it was a great choise after all.
It cost me 189 euro, the cheapest I found.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Gio and it works perfectly with Unity. It will even run an fps game with effects like real time reflections / refractions, parralax shaders etc. without any problems.
Kindle Fire is $199 and can run Unity games quite well. It’s a popular device so it’s good to test on there if you’re going to release to the Amazon Appstore.
