Hi there! I am new to Unity and C# in general and I have been watching lots of tutorials, but some are a bit outdated, or just straight out boring to listen to the person talk. So I am wondering if anyone knows any Youtubers that have great C# Unity 5 tutorials that explain the basic and a bit more, without a monotonous voice? Thanks!
There are a few that I have watched that I have liked. Earlier on, I did the BurgZerg Arcade Hack and Slash tutorial series, but it got dropped before it was finished and now he is working on a new series using Unity 5 but it doesn’t seem to be as in-depth. Might be worth it to download Unity 4 and go through the 200+ videos in the original series to get a feel for a lot of the different parts though. He has some other good ones dealing with Scriptable Objects, Unity Attributes, and using Git with Unity.
Gamer to Game Developer has just started his S3 series which might be a really good one to start out with. It is going through a lot of the basics and seems to have a good flow to follow. He also has a pretty substantial playlist dealing with UNet, Unity’s new network system. The S1 and S2 series may be good too, but with them being older they may be better using an older version of Unity. I haven’t had a chance to look at those but have watched a few in the network series and am following the new S3 series.
Jonathan Weinberger has three playlists dedicated to Unity C# coding - a beginner, intermediate, and an advanced.
Brackeys has started a new series building an FPS with the new Unity 5 UNet networking system that looks promising. He also has a Basic C# series. Unfortunately a lot of his earlier playlists are done in UnityScript. Would be nice to see them redone at some point in C#. ![]()
Awful Media has a couple including a Unity C# Beginner Tutorial. Also he has one that also deals with integrating JSON and has just started redoing his inventory series using Unity 5.
Digital Tutors has a couple that I have marked but haven’t watched yet… One for creating mobile puzzle games and the other for creating mobile side scroller type game, both series use C#.
HardlyBriefDan had a decent teaching style and I enjoyed following along with him early on. Might be a good one to watch but recently his releases has been a bit sporadic. The only thing I’ve watched by him is his RPG series, but haven’t went back to watch new stuff. I probably left off around episode 40.
Then of course there are the actual Unity ones, but I’ve usually found I’ve preferred some of the others a little more easy to follow. Although I have bookmarked the most recent Tanks series from Unite to watch.
I’m always looking for more tutorial type folks to follow as well. Not really interested in anything UnityScript, but would love to add some more folks who are making solid C# tutorials to my subscription list!
Awesome! This list really helps! I’ll try to check them all out when I get a chance.
The unity learn section is great. After that just find a competent YouTuber or ask on the forums for specific help.
There is a post stuck to the top if the teaching section re: getting started coding with C#. TBH, most of the links are generic C#, rather than C# for Unity, but it might be worth a look.
Brackys and Bergzerg are two of my favorite, also Inscope is really good. I am subscribed to a ton of them on youtube and watch a few short videos each morning over breakfast. You can just check the dates, usually it is not worth going back much further than like Unity 4.6 release. Another good thing are the live training tutorials here on Unity. They teach by making games.
InScope is another that I have just subscribed to but haven’t yet watched.
