Best camera for depth stream (a Kinect replacement in 2018)?

I’m revisiting and updating a “magic sandbox” project I did around 5 years ago, which uses the depth stream from an original Xbox360 Kinect sensor to process and project features onto a sand terrain.

Although the Kinect I have still works, the drivers can be fiddly to set-up and, since the Kinect hardware is now long since discontinued, I’d like to replace it with something more up-to-date.

I’m aware of several similar products that have come onto market - Orbbec, Intel SR300, Realsense, etc. - I was wondering whether anyone had experience of using these within Unity, and could suggest/recommend which one might be best (considering I’m only interested in accessing the depth texture - not skeletal tracking/face recognition etc.)

Any comments gratefully received - thanks!

Hi, Did you ever come to a conclusion on what camera to work with in 2018?
