Best current RPG kit in AS?

ORK? Plygame? Action RPG Starter Kit? Top Down Kit? RPG Kit 2? Dexthero?
Neither?

Please don’t tell me to start my own from scratch, I’m still testing the waters.

To answer my own question a day later:
Plygame is most probably the only near-professional solution among these.
And Dialogue System 1.40 can be directly integrated into it which is a big plus.

I’d suggest Checking out PlyGame, PlyGame use to be called UniRPG! I think it’s an amazing solution for building a Single Player RPG. If you look into it you will find it has everything you need to build an RPG, and what’s great is it’s very user friendly, provides tons of Editor Extensions for you to easily drag and drop things in place, easily edit values and plenty of options to create the game you want.

Another good option is Zerano RPG Kit, what I like about this one is that it offers Multiplayer Support via Photon Cloud. So if your more interested in making a Multiplayer RPG (Note: NOT MMO) this is also a good option.

Plygame is an awesome tool i own it and also Ork, and ORK is probably more comprehensive and feature complete(while adding new things almost monthly) my current project is utilizing Plygame but i wouldnt put aside ORK so quickly (Thats ORKFramework not the older okashi rpg framework)

Well, ORK does work together seamlessly with Dialogue System which is a great help:

I didn’t know it’s more feature-rich than Plygame. All I knew was that Plygame is more popular.

Dont get me wrong plygame is feature rich but when you check out everything ork allows its becoming more of a game framework more than rpg framework which makes the possibilities limited only to what you can think of doing while keeping everything nice and tight in the framework

Yes, it seems that Ork allows 2D natively, unlike Plygame. (Meaning I need to create my own 2D controller in Plygame.)

But Ork has no video tutorials at all, unlike Plygame.

Yea thats true my only true gripe with ORK, that and no built in character creator but thats an easy fix (sorta) his written tutorials on just about every feature are very thorough and well laid out i rarely had a question after looking at them but im a video guy so im just being picky lol.

Leslie’s plygame video tuts will get you started tho im a little curious why he stopped producing them 4 months ago

Ork’s developer is loved to death on some forums:

How do you fix the (lack of) character creation?

he is great dev and very timely ive probably logged a few hours talking back in forth via email for one issue

well one way i would assume is to use UMA but its not supported so integration would kinda be on the users part

there was another way someone suggested on the forums i might have a post about on there also not ringing a bell what i said or if i got a answer i liked but out of the whole framework that the only thing i wanted that it didnt have out the box, community wise i think its about even as far as active people on the forums but i think GiL responds more the leslie but thats not saying to much as they are both good a responses.

if it wasnt for the lack of knowing how to integrate 3rd party plugins with ORK out the gate i wouldnt be using plygame, but to fix that im thinking of just ruuning ORK (can be done with plygame also) thru API meaning i can write my game as if there is no framework and just derive from the framework in my scripts that way using others plugins wont affect it as you control how it interacts. Hope that made sense

Well, that kinda beats the purpose for me. I mean my coding sucks and I wanna take full advantage of extensions. So if Ork requires me to use scripting for asset integration, then it’s back to Plygame I guess.

Dont quote me on that lol, i would contact GiL to make sure, some might require it most probably wont

I’ve had ORK for years, back when it was two separate packages and I think it’s pretty good. The dev is pretty quick to respond on his forums to help solve any issues you may come into or to help implement the parts of the game you want.

While he does not have video tutorials up he does have a lengthy amount of text tutorials, including an entire section devoted to creating your own game using all the big features ORK has.

The only RPG kits I have are ORKframework and plyGame and here are my thoughts about them:

Since I bought plyGame first, I’ll start with that:
It was used to be called UniRPG till Leslie rebuilt it as plyGame to allow more flexibility so you can use it for genres other than RPGs like what I’m working on with it is a Visual Novel.
Flexibility comes at a price that is you have to build a system yourself. plyGame is a toolset, not a pre-bulit system.
Clean User Interface - I find plyGame easy to work with because it’s organized in a way that I don’t get bombed with lots of options in one window like how ORKframework does it.
Comes with plyBlox, its own visual scripting tool, which I find it easy to follow and use since I’m familiar with visual scripting like Playmaker.

Then I bought ORKframework just to see what I can learn from it:
It used to be called ORK Okashi RPG Kit while ORKFramework is its successor. Other than that, I don’t much about it.
More straightforward at building a RPG as ORK already has preset battle systems like Turn-Based, Real Time and such.
Node Based Event system - Makes designing AI a bit less cumbersome compared to plyGame.
Difficult and confusing to learn at first - From what I remember, a combatant must be made then to be put into the active group to make it as a playable character. It’s restricting to say the least, whereas ORKFramework has systems done for you, you have to follow it. It feels more like changing settings than actually building things.

With all things considered, it depends on what you’re looking for exactly. If you want more flexibility, plyGame might be the one to look for. If you’re lazy and okay with pre-built options, ORKframework handles all that. Both are good in their own way.

I’m not lazy, but am a novice in C# coding. I’m also not very rich, so I’d rather buy just one framework for now. So I chose ORK. But I’d still like to hear opinions from you guys.
