Which format is better for images in unity- png or gif? And is the answer changed if the platform target is Iphone or Android?
You shouldn’t use GIF on any aspect of your life.

This is a question for General Graphics, not Image Effects.
PSD is my image format of choice for Unity. PNG otherwise if you prefer it. GIF never. I’ll occasionally use TGA for “flattened” images because most image editors treat PNG improperly for what real time rendering needs.
