Best Laptops for Game Development

Hello all,

I’m currently developing projects on an Alienware m11x R3. Sadly, my little laptop is close to death and I’m looking for a replacement. Does anybody here have experience developing on a laptop? Which laptops would be the best for small projects, mostly 2D side-scrolling stuff?

Thanks for any advice

See if those helps you.

Just about anything. An Alienware laptop is extremely overkill for the development task you mentioned. You could very easily go with the cheapest laptops on the market, but at the very least I recommend the following Acer Aspire E15 as anything cheaper will often have a fraction of the storage (eg 32GB or 64GB flash).

That said a faster processor will make a world of a difference when it comes to compiling scripts. A solid state drive will vastly increase the speed of booting the laptop, starting apps, loading assets, etc. Going from 4GB to 8GB of memory and getting a dedicated graphics chip aren’t small upgrades either.

I don’t know others but for me a “track point” is a must for a development laptop. I currently use a Toshiba with i74600u and G730M, and track point.

Does any know a good laptop (at least with a decent GPU) and track point?

I am also a fan of track point, from those IBM ThinkPad.
They provide 3 kinds of track point, I like the classic dome, which provide the best friction.
Only problem is they lose friction when get oily. have to clean regularly or buy replacement.
