Hello i’m looking for an awesome modeling program that is very easy to use (Modeling, adding bones, animating. etc) I use Blender and I feel there are way better programs out there, thanks once again!
If you’re looking for a free one, keep using blender.
Otherwise, if you’re willing to pay $, then go for Maya/3DSMax/Zbrush.
If you’re looking for sculpting, use ZBrush. Idk about Autodesk.
As far as I know industries use Maya and 3Ds Max so they seem to be the best.
However talking only about game development blender gives you everything you need and in my expierience is easier than the other 2.Zbrush as the guy above said is not a full package, it will allow you to sculpt, model and texture but it wont let you rig it or animate(if im correct).
Remember that the software doesn’t make the artist but the artist make the software.
I use 3ds max. For cheap building modelling use sketch up or blender
When you are short of money then Blender is still your best bet. When not, then there`s Autodesk, Cinema4D, Modo and some other apps.
I don’t intend to market or something but Why don’t you try GameDraw free version, it’s inside unity, just check it out and see whether it fits your needs.
Blender is probably your best bet. It has all the tools you need and the price is unbeatable. It’s also highly customizable to suit your workflow preferences.
That being said, here are some commonly suggested alternatives:
3DSMax and Maya are Autodesk’s flagship products and are certainly the most widely used in the industry. However they cost thousands.
Modo is cheaper but less feature-rich. I know that they recently started introducing proper animation features but I’m not sure how advanced that’s gotten.
Silo is a straight modeler with no rigging or animating functionality but it’s comparatively cheap.
Sculptris is a really intuitive free sculpting program. It won’t be useful by itself of course, but if you plan to do any sculpting at all then it’s worth a look.
If we are talking about 3D modeling as modeling then keep going with Blender, but if we’re talking about 3D modeling as sculpting then ZBrush. I have given 3ds Max a fair chance, but i’d use Blender anytime, even when we are not looking into the costs of the modeling software.
Why is nobody giving an opinion to Cinema4D?
I think C4D is really easy to handle, gives much functions and has a good export setup - i´m just using Wings3D (costs nothing - free) for basic shaping, and C4D for the rest (here and there zBrush helps out a bit).
The best value for money is probably Lightwave Cinema 4D.
A modeler is a really personal thing, they all do basically the same thing so the best one is just the one you prefer.
So it’s best to have a look around and download demos to try.
My preference is Softimage. There’s a free version called Modtool to use (non commercial use), it does everything you need.
http://www.autodesk.com/modtool
The Link to the Softimage XSI Modtool doesn`t exist anymore. I get redirected to Autodesk Softimage Services Support. I think they have removed it finally.
Hexagon 2.5 = Free http://www.daz3d.com and Milkshape3D for rigging and animating etc! http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/
Doh. Autodesk are really strangling Softimage. The old $500 foundation version was perfect for indies. ![]()
Ah well, if people want to Search for Modtool 7.5, it’ll be around somewhere.
I have worked professionally in the industry for 8 years. I started with 3DS Max and learned Maya later. I have flip-flopped on which was my favorite over the years. I think in the end Maya has better animation tools but I still prefer working in Max. However, I have recently learned to use Blender, and I can honestly say I don’t think I will ever go back unless I need something specific to one of those programs. Blender is fantastic. A few years ago, the blender interface was absolutely garbage. But the most recent incarnation is very strong. I was fortunate to have access to Lynda Tutorials to teach me the interface. But Blender has a strong online community with a lot of free tutorials available through BlenderCookie and other resources.
Now, if you don’t really know how to model and are both trying to learn Blender and how to create art, any program will be a struggle, at first. Just because you know how to spin the pottery wheel doesn’t mean you can make a functional vase. For the money (free) – Blender cannot be beat. The community is also much more geared toward creating tutorial content for absolute beginners as well.
Good luck finding the tool that works for you!
I use Blender and 3DCoat (Voxel Sculpting and Texture Painting) for generating nice textures I use PixPlant
3d Modeling tools
Blender3d
Google Sketch up
Wings3d
Auto Desk Maya And the others
But what I mainly use is
Blender3d
Wings3d Great for sculpting
and Google Sketch Up
And the best thing yet thoe’s three are free. ![]()

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Blender for some time now, but it’s getting better. Their UI is still pretty clunky, after all this time I can only conclude that it is deliberate (what is so evil about using a right mouse button for a context menu?).
Anyway…for low poly modelling…it’s great, once you learn the blender way of doing things. And as others have said…you -can’-t beat the price!
I Love Blender and you can do just about anything you need with it. The only downside, and it’s major, is you can’t import any animated assets from Maya/3DS and work with them. This limits your ability to purchase assets from asset stores as a starting point and then add new animations, make new mods, etc to customize them for your project. I’ve been waiting for over 6 years for this to change but it hasn’t, and writing a .fbx importer is way too big a project for me to take on myself.
Nothing. But RMB is for selections and performing actions in Blender. The devs would have to break this paradigm in case they wants to use right click menus. Not the only area where they stand in their own way …
One possible pipeline is Collada. FBX import was nearly finished, but then there were some license issues with Autodesk, the license holder for FBX.
What i still don`t get, export is allowed, but import not? Now go figure …
RMB does not have to be select. You can switch it in preferences to a more natural LMB and then RMB cancels actions and what not.
Autodesk FBX format is a closed proprietary format and requires a license purchase to write for. They don’t care if Blender exports .FBX because that just means more models going into their workflow (their software, their money). They care if Blender imports it because that means that models are leaving their workflow. I am wondering if the Blender foundation can’t just hold a fundraiser to support the purchase of the license for them to be able to use it because I would give them like, 100 dollars. lol.
