Best Place to Share Webplayers Free? (Not Dropbox)

Please don’t answer with dropbox. No matter what I do nowadays, it appears dropbox is permanently broken for some web browsers like chrome. If you get it to work with one web browser, it doesn’t work with another one.

Where is the current best place to host web players for unity3d? Not for production games, just for general sharing such as uploading for unity answer responses. Sometimes, my uploads here get thousands of hits and my server just can’t handle that load. Dropbox used to handle them all with ease.

It really depends on what you mean by hosting, and what you actually want out of it. You could go with something like Kongregate (http://www.kongregate.com/) or gamehouse.com where they provide you with some funds depending upon how your game performs.
(Edit: Noting your comment on the previous answer, this is not very relevant)

If you are merely looking for somewhere to post your game so it’s accessible online, you have a few options. (But this is!)

  • You can look into the hosting your service provider gives you. They usually have a small offering that would be enough for a few modest web player projects. But this requires some web knowledge, and some providers might not allow anything other than basic html/css.
  • You can also look at a third party storage solution like sugarsync or cubby (by the guys from LogMeIn fame) which would serve as an alternative to dropbox.
  • Most technically, you could set up a web server and host it all yourself with the assistance of a dynamic IP service like No-IP (http://www.noip.com/).
