Best practices for 2D "Ski Safari - like" game

Hi,

I’m a complete newbie in Unity. What is the best way to start the development of a 2D game in Unity, let’s a “Ski Safari - like” game? I saw a bunch of 2D/Sprite tools in the asset store: is that really the way to go, or is working with a bare Unity setup a good idea too? What about the graphics: 3 models or 2d drawings?

Thanks!

Philippe

Note: Will Unity 4.0 change something regarding 2D games?

I’d strongly advise starting with a complete project from the asset store… I’ve got 2 skiing projects for sale, they are 3D vs 2D though, but they give you a huge and fast head start.
