Best tool to edit motion capture ( kill forward motion)

For those that use motion capture in your character workflow, what is the simplest or most efficient way to zero out forward motion on walking or running files so they walk/run in place for use in Unity.

I have access to Max and Motion Builder but I’m a old school character guy, never messed with bvh.

I looked at that lil Animeeple app, which seemed like it would do the trick, but it’s really beta-ish.

thanks,
B.

If you can edit the motion in Motionbuilder there should be an “in place” check box that is used for just such a thing.

If not you’ll have to edit the animation data itself.

It would be nice if you could just kill the animation on it’s root (hips) but if any of that is a desired part of the characters action(s) you’ll have to edit the keys on the characters root to remove the part that 'moves it through world space but keep the part that is the desired ‘in place’ movement.

Thanks Sam,

I’ll wade into MB and look for such a switch. God, it’s just become such a insanely over achieving piece of software, I dread dealing with it. I noticed a program called ‘Ecstasy’ that seems to be targeted at indie game developers for working with mocap, but they seem to have tied their infrastructure to Torque. That may only be when going deep or coding, but that may not rule it out altogether. What I like is the integration of physics and dynamic motion to really give stock bvh files a more organic feel.

Has anyone seen a demo of this? An actual demo. I find canned you tube offerings often quite optimistic.

In 3dMax,…
If you select the COM,. or center of mass on the biped you can see the keys it has.[the blue diamond in the groin] {motion tab}
Just remember, under the “motion tab” for the biped center of mass,.
you will see 2 arrow buttons…
one points left to right,
and the other points up and down.
Make sure you select one,. delete the keys for it, and then select the other,. and delete the keys for that too. (if there are any) …
This is a character studio thing…

Max has no ‘Edit Delete Keys for selected’ like Maya, so after selecting the center of mass, you have to drag select the keys on the bottom, and hit delete.
